To promote patriotism, cleanliness, environmental conservation and a sense of social responsibility among students, the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, in collaboration with the Helping Hands Group, organised a series of creative competitions at the Government Senior Secondary School, Tejli.

The programme, organised in connection with Independence Day and the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, featured painting, slogan writing, essay writing and quiz competitions. Students participated enthusiastically and expressed their ideas on national pride, cleanliness, environmental protection and responsible citizenship through creative activities.

Municipal Corporation IEC Expert Akash Kumar sensitised the students about the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, explaining the importance of waste segregation at source and responsible disposal. He also highlighted the harmful impact of single-use plastic on the environment and urged students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.

Akash Kumar administered a pledge to the students to avoid the use of single-use plastic and actively contribute towards maintaining cleanliness in their homes, schools and surroundings.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Narendra Singh Sai of Helping Hands Group encouraged students to play an active role in nation-building. He said that young people can contribute to society not only through academic excellence but also through responsible behaviour and active participation in community initiatives.

Dr Vibha Gupta delivered a message on de-addiction and encouraged students to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. She stressed the importance of making positive choices and staying away from harmful habits.

Municipal Corporation Social Media In-charge Mukta also briefed the students about various government welfare initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and encouraged them to share relevant information with their families and communities.

The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. In the drawing competition, Class XI student Swati secured the first position, Class IX student Priya stood second, while Class VIII student Swastika secured the third position.

At the conclusion of the programme, students securing first, second and third positions in the drawing, slogan, essay and quiz competitions were honoured with gifts and certificates of appreciation.

School Principal Dr Umesh Pratap Vats appreciated the initiative and the enthusiastic participation of students. The successful organisation of the programme was supported by drawing teacher Navneet Sharma, Dr Narendra Singh Sai, Mukta and the entire school staff.

The organisers said such activities provide students with an opportunity to understand national values while developing awareness about cleanliness, environmental protection and their responsibilities towards society.
