With the annual Kanwar Yatra entering its crucial phase, Yamunanagar Police has intensified security arrangements across the district to ensure a peaceful, safe and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees carrying holy Ganga water. Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal conducted an extensive inspection of the Kanwar Yatra route on Thursday and reviewed security, traffic management and emergency response arrangements at key locations.

During the inspection, the SP interacted with police personnel deployed along the route and reviewed the functioning of ambulances, fire brigade units, cranes and emergency response teams. He instructed all officials to remain on high alert and perform their duties with complete dedication, as a significant increase in the number of Kanwariyas is expected this year.

Reviewing arrangements at various service camps, Goyal appealed to camp organisers to ensure that no obstruction is caused on the highways or pilgrimage routes. He stressed that while serving devotees is a noble initiative, the movement of Kanwariyas as well as the general public should remain smooth and uninterrupted.

The SP said nearly one lakh Kanwariyas are expected to pass through Yamunanagar this year, compared to around 80,000 devotees during the previous Kanwar Yatra. Keeping the anticipated rush in view, the district police has substantially strengthened its security and traffic management plans.

To maintain strict surveillance, the police have established 34 checkpoints, including seven inter-state checkposts and 27 checkpoints within the district. Around 550 police officers and personnel have been deployed round the clock to regulate traffic, monitor suspicious activities and prevent any untoward incidents. Every checkpoint has been instructed to keep a close watch on vehicles and individuals entering the district.

For effective coordination, Additional Superintendent of Police Ashish Chaudhary has been appointed the overall in-charge of Kanwar Yatra security, while DSP Sunil Kumar (Radaur) has been designated as the nodal officer. Besides them, six gazetted officers are supervising security arrangements in different zones, while all 15 Station House Officers (SHOs) are continuously patrolling their respective jurisdictions with dedicated teams.

Kamaldeep Goyal directed police personnel to maintain a courteous and helpful attitude towards devotees and ensure that any issue faced by pilgrims is addressed without delay. He added that additional traffic diversions, emergency response systems and enhanced deployment have been put in place at sensitive locations to facilitate the smooth conduct of the religious procession.

The SP reiterated that the district police is committed to giving equal priority to security, traffic management and the convenience of Kanwariyas, ensuring that every devotee completes the sacred journey safely and peacefully.
