Yamunanagar Police Arrest One in Housing Board Murder Case as Two Proclaimed Offenders Are Held

Three separate police actions cover a murder investigation, festive-season traffic directions for auto-rickshaw operators and arrests of two court-declared proclaimed offenders
Yamunanagar Police have stepped up action on multiple fronts, with Crime Branch-1 arresting an accused in the Housing Board Sector 18 murder case, the city police holding a meeting with auto-rickshaw operators to improve traffic management during the festive season, and the Proclaimed Offender Staff arresting two accused who had been declared proclaimed offenders by a court.
One Arrested in Housing Board Sector 18 Murder Case
Crime Branch-1 of Yamunanagar Police has arrested one accused in connection with the death of a young man following an assault in Housing Board Sector 18. The accused has been identified as Raj Kumar alias Lukka, a resident of Khera Farm.
According to the police spokesperson, the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. The investigation into the case was entrusted to Crime Branch-1, which subsequently traced and arrested the accused.
Crime Branch-1 in-charge Raj Kumar said the team involved in the operation included Sub-Inspectors Jasvir Singh, Praveen Kumar, Sushil, Deepak and Kuldeep, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh.
The accused was produced before the court and taken on remand. Police said questioning during the remand period would focus on identifying other persons allegedly involved in the incident and recovering material believed to have been used during the assault.
According to police, Shiv Tyagi, a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, was residing in Housing Board Sector 18. Police said that on September 10, some youths allegedly attacked him following an old dispute. He sustained injuries in the incident and was initially being treated.
The police had registered a case under various sections in connection with the assault. Following Tyagi’s death during treatment, the murder-related provision was added to the case.
The investigation was subsequently handed over to Crime Branch-1. Police said the arrest of Raj Kumar alias Lukka was part of the investigation and that further questioning would be carried out during his remand.
Police to Question Accused About Other Suspects
Crime Branch-1 officials said the arrested accused would be questioned regarding the possible involvement of other persons in the incident. Police will also seek to recover material allegedly used in the crime.
The investigation remains underway, and further details are expected to emerge as the police proceed with the questioning and evidence collection.
Police Meet Auto-Rickshaw Union Ahead of Festive Season
In a separate initiative aimed at keeping traffic movement smooth during the festive season, City Yamunanagar Police Station in-charge Manoj Kumar held a meeting with office-bearers and drivers of the auto-rickshaw union at the railway station.
The meeting focused on traffic discipline and ensuring that commuters do not face unnecessary difficulties due to improperly parked or operated auto-rickshaws.
Police said the movement of people generally increases around markets, railway stations and other public places during the festive period. Auto-rickshaw operators were therefore directed to park their vehicles only at appropriate and designated locations so that traffic flow is not obstructed.
Manoj Kumar urged drivers to follow traffic rules and exercise caution while picking up and dropping passengers. He specifically directed them not to stop their vehicles in the middle of the road.
Drivers were advised to pull over to a safe roadside location before allowing passengers to board or leave the vehicle. Police said the practice would help prevent congestion and facilitate smoother movement for other road users.
The police also stressed the importance of clearly displaying the registration number on every auto-rickshaw.
Warning Against Drunk Driving
The station in-charge issued a clear warning against driving under the influence of intoxicants. He said driving in an intoxicated condition could endanger not only the driver but also passengers and other road users.
Police said action would be taken according to law if any driver was found operating an auto-rickshaw while intoxicated.
Auto-rickshaw union president Manish Kumar assured the police that he would communicate the directions to the union’s members and encourage drivers to follow traffic regulations.
He also assured the police of the union’s cooperation in maintaining orderly traffic movement.
According to the police spokesperson, around 9,000 autos and rickshaws operate in Yamunanagar city, making the cooperation of auto-rickshaw operators important for traffic management.
Union office-bearers, including vice-president Brijpal, Dharmendra, vice-president Ravi Kumar and secretary Harish Kumar, besides other office-bearers and auto-rickshaw drivers, attended the meeting.
PO Staff Arrest Two Proclaimed Offenders
Meanwhile, Yamunanagar Police’s Proclaimed Offender Staff has arrested two accused who had been declared proclaimed offenders by a court.
The arrests were made as part of a special drive against proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers being conducted under the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Inspector Jagbir Singh, in-charge of the PO Staff. The special team included ASI Ashwini, Head Constables Sandeep, Mahavir and Rajat, along with Woman Constable Seema.
Police identified the arrested accused as Sukhbir, son of Joginder Singh, a resident of Sangipur village, and Naresh Kumar, son of Fakir Chand, a resident of Ganoli.
According to the police, both accused were involved in a criminal case and had been declared proclaimed offenders by the court after they failed to appear before it. Police said they had been evading arrest.
Acting on information and through coordinated efforts, the PO Staff team traced and arrested both accused.
The two were subsequently produced before the court and sent to judicial custody as part of the further legal process.
Drive Against Proclaimed Offenders to Continue
The police spokesperson said the district-wide drive against proclaimed offenders and bail jumpers would continue.
Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal appreciated the efforts of the PO Staff team and said, according to the police, that action against persons wanted in criminal cases would continue in accordance with law.
The three developments reflect the Yamunanagar Police’s ongoing enforcement activities across investigation, court-related action and traffic management. While the murder investigation remains focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding the death and identifying any other alleged participants, traffic officials are seeking greater compliance from auto-rickshaw operators during a period of increased public movement.
Police have also reiterated that enforcement against persons declared proclaimed offenders will continue as part of the district’s law-enforcement measures.
