Kumari Selja Urges Congress Workers to Raise Farmers’, Youth and Public Issues at Grassroots

At Tohana and Ratia block conferences, Selja, Sanjay Dutt and Rao Narender Singh call for stronger organisation from village to booth level

Sirsa MP, former Union minister, Congress general secretary and CWC member Kumari Selja called upon Congress workers in Haryana to remain closely connected with people and consistently raise issues concerning farmers, youth, students, women, labourers and other sections of society.

Addressing Block Congress Committee conferences in Tohana and Ratia on Monday, Selja said grassroots workers have a direct role in identifying local concerns and taking them to the appropriate forums. Congress affairs in-charge for Haryana Sanjay Dutt and Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh also addressed the gatherings. Tohana MLA Parmveer Singh was among those present.

Selja Calls for Stronger Public Connect

Selja said the concerns of farmers, young people and students require sustained attention from political organisations and their workers. She urged party workers to remain available to residents and understand issues related to employment, education, agriculture and basic civic facilities.

She said the organisation could become more effective when workers actively participate in public life and consistently raise matters affecting people. According to Selja, grassroots workers form an important link between the organisation and the public and should maintain regular communication with residents in their respective areas.

She also stressed the need to increase participation of people from different sections and give workers greater responsibility within the organisation. Her emphasis was on maintaining public contact as a continuing activity rather than limiting interaction to formal party programmes.

Sanjay Dutt Stresses Village-to-Booth Organisation

Sanjay Dutt said active and dedicated grassroots workers are central to building a strong organisational structure. He called for the Congress structure to remain active from the village and ward level down to the booth.

Dutt urged workers to remain among the people, listen to their concerns and take organisational programmes forward through regular coordination. He said the objective was not simply to expand the organisation but to make it active, accountable and responsive to issues raised by residents.

The Tohana and Ratia meetings were part of a wider series of block-level Congress conventions in Haryana. The programme for September 18 to 21 included conventions at eight blocks, with Tohana and Ratia scheduled for September 21. Contemporary reports also described the exercise as an organisational effort focused on strengthening the party structure down to the booth level.

Rao Narender Singh Seeks Greater Responsibility for Workers

Rao Narender Singh said direct communication with workers and their active participation are important for strengthening the organisation. He said the party was working to strengthen its structure from the village to the booth level and that workers should be assigned responsibilities along with accountability for organisational activities.

He also called upon workers to remain connected with farmers, labourers, women, youth and students and to take up their concerns through the organisational structure. The emphasis on booth-level activity follows the broader organisational schedule announced for Haryana during the September 18-21 block conventions.

Tohana MLA Highlights Local Issues

The conferences were presided over by Fatehabad District Congress Committee president Arvind Sharma. The Tohana block conference was organised by Block Congress president Harbans Lal, while the Ratia conference was organised by Block Congress president Gursevak Singh.

Tohana MLA Parmveer Singh welcomed Sanjay Dutt, Rao Narender Singh and Kumari Selja. He said he had been raising issues concerning farmers, Home Guard personnel, sanitation workers and other sections in the state Assembly.

The meetings also provided an opportunity for workers and office-bearers to discuss organisational activities, forthcoming programmes and local issues. Such block-level interactions are intended to connect senior leaders with workers operating closer to the public and to gather feedback from the grassroots.

Large Turnout of Party Workers

Former minister Atar Singh Saini, former MLA Sardar Nishan Singh, Congress Legal Cell chairman Lal Bahadur Khowal, Mangat Ram Lalawas, Sudhir Godara, Veerbhan Mehta, Jaipal Singh Lali, Krishna Poonia, Connect Centre coordinator Deepak Lamba, Surender Vartiya and other district and block office-bearers, senior leaders, elected representatives and functionaries of various party cells attended the programmes along with a large number of workers.

The Haryana Congress block convention programme has been presented by party leaders as an organisational exercise aimed at strengthening contact between workers and the public. Reports on the wider programme said discussions across the state included organisational activity and public issues such as agriculture, unemployment, inflation and other local concerns.

For Tohana and Ratia, the focus of the meetings remained on worker participation, public contact and strengthening the organisational structure from the local level upward. Selja, Dutt and Rao Narender Singh asked workers to maintain regular engagement with residents and use the party organisation to raise issues brought to them by people in their respective areas.
