Door-to-door awareness campaign promotes sanitation, safe drinking water and home composting to prevent seasonal diseases

As part of the nationwide ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ campaign, the Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation conducted a ‘Stop Diarrhoea’ awareness drive in Radha Krishna Temple locality, Sector-17, HUDA (Ward-7) to educate residents on preventing water-borne diseases through better hygiene and sanitation practices.
The campaign was organised under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team carrying out an extensive door-to-door outreach programme to spread awareness about the causes of diarrhoea, preventive measures and the importance of maintaining a clean environment, particularly during the monsoon season.
During the campaign, the Swachh Bharat Mission team, led by IEC experts Durgesh Kumar and Gagan Beniwal, advised residents to adopt healthy habits such as drinking clean water, washing hands with soap before meals and after using the toilet, and maintaining proper household hygiene to reduce the risk of diarrhoeal infections.
Officials also urged citizens to keep their homes and surroundings clean and remain extra cautious during the rainy season, when the spread of water-borne diseases increases significantly.
Alongside the health awareness programme, the municipal team educated households about waste segregation and home composting. Residents were encouraged to separate wet and dry waste into different bins, enabling scientific waste management and reducing the amount of garbage sent to dumping sites.

The team explained that wet kitchen waste can be converted into organic compost at home, creating natural manure while contributing to environmental conservation and cleaner neighbourhoods.
Promoting the messages “Adopt Two Dustbins, Keep Diseases Away” and “Segregation at Source is the Solution to Cleanliness,” officials appealed to citizens to make cleanliness a community movement by practising regular waste segregation, adopting home composting and actively participating in maintaining a healthy and hygienic city.
The Municipal Corporation said such awareness campaigns will continue across different wards to strengthen public health, improve sanitation and encourage sustainable waste management practices among residents.
