BJP Workers, Residents Listen to PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in Yamunanagar
BJP workers and local residents gathered at the Thapar Colony Shakti Kendra in Yamunanagar to listen collectively to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme at the residence of Ashok Duggal. According to the organisers, participants listened to the 138th edition of the monthly radio address and later discussed several of the issues highlighted during the programme, including public participation in Census 2027, nutrition, keeping young people away from drugs, environmental and wildlife conservation, Indian culture and national security.
The gathering brought together members of the Shakti Kendra as well as residents from the locality. Organisers said the purpose of the collective listening session was to hear the Prime Minister’s address together and discuss how the messages relating to social responsibility and public participation could be translated into activities at the community level.
Focus on Public Participation
During the programme, Prime Minister Modi spoke about a range of issues that require participation beyond government institutions. The organisers said the discussion around Census 2027 was particularly relevant because the census process involves citizens and households directly. Participants also referred to the importance of awareness about nutrition, healthy lifestyles and community-level action on issues affecting families and young people.
Environmental protection and wildlife conservation were also among the subjects discussed after the broadcast. For residents, such themes have a direct connection with everyday civic responsibilities, including keeping neighbourhoods clean, reducing waste, protecting green spaces and encouraging responsible use of natural resources. The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to discuss these subjects in a local context rather than limiting the programme to a listening exercise.
Message on Keeping Youth Away from Drugs
The issue of drug abuse among young people was another focus of the discussion. Participants said families, educational institutions and community organisations all have a role in encouraging young people towards education, sports, skills, employment and other constructive activities. The discussion emphasised the need for sustained awareness and early intervention rather than treating the issue only as a matter of law enforcement.
The organisers also linked the message to the responsibility of adults to maintain communication with young people and help them find positive avenues for personal development. Such community-level conversations, they said, can help create greater awareness about the social consequences of substance abuse and the importance of timely support for affected families.
Security, Culture and National Service
The Prime Minister also referred to national security and recalled the 2016 surgical strike while speaking about India’s response to terrorism and the role of the armed forces. Participants at the Thapar Colony gathering said the reference led to discussion about the contribution of the armed forces and the importance of national security in the broader public discourse.
Indian culture and its growing global presence were also part of the programme. The participants discussed the importance of preserving cultural traditions while allowing Indian art, values, knowledge and heritage to reach wider audiences. According to the organisers, the subject was seen as an example of how local cultural practices can become part of a broader national conversation.
Organisers Stress Citizen Responsibility
Thapar Colony Shakti Kendra in-charge Sumit Gupta said ‘Mann Ki Baat’ had become a platform through which people could connect with issues of public participation and nation-building. He said the themes discussed in the programme, including the census, nutrition, drug prevention, environmental protection and national security, had relevance for citizens at the community level.
“Nation-building is not only the responsibility of the government; every citizen has a role,” Gupta said, according to the organisers. He added that people could contribute by participating in community activities, guiding young people towards positive pursuits and remaining aware of social and environmental responsibilities.
Dr Harshvardhan Sharma said the programme could help connect different sections of society with constructive initiatives. He said issues such as nutrition, environmental protection and keeping young people away from drugs require participation from families as well as the wider community. He also stressed that messages heard through such programmes become more meaningful when they are reflected in everyday conduct.

The programme was attended by Shakti Kendra in-charge Sumit Gupta, Shakti Kendra chief Sudhir Kumar, Shakti Kendra patron Ashok Duggal, Dr Harshvardhan Sharma, Pawan Uppal, Sunil Kumar, Surinder Sahni and other BJP workers and local residents. Participants listened to the address and subsequently discussed issues connected with social responsibility and public participation.
The organisers said those present expressed an intention to communicate the programme’s messages more widely and encourage greater participation in community-oriented activities.
