Yamunanagar Police Arrest Four in Tube-Well Motor Theft Case
Yamunanagar Police have arrested four men in connection with a series of alleged tube-well motor thefts in the district, with the Crime Branch-1 team claiming that the accused have disclosed their involvement in around 18 theft incidents during preliminary questioning.
According to the police, the four accused were arrested near the Kalanour border after the Crime Branch-1 team received information that a group of persons was allegedly moving around the area with the intention of committing another offence. The accused were subsequently produced before a court and taken on remand for further investigation.
Crime Branch-1 in-charge Raj Kumar said the police team acted on specific information and formed a team comprising ASIs Azad Singh and Amarjeet Singh, along with Manish, Sushil, Brijpal and Kamal. The team reached the indicated location and detained four persons.
The arrested accused have been identified as Jaspal, son of Ishwar Singh, a resident of Sheetalpur village in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh; Raju, son of Dharampal, a resident of Son Chidoda village; Inder Sen, son of Bhanwar Singh, a resident of Glaura village; and Dharampal alias Mittu, son of Mahavir, a resident of New Sharda Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Police suspect wider network behind motor thefts
Police said preliminary interrogation indicates that the accused may be linked to around one-and-a-half dozen or more tube-well motor theft incidents. Investigators are questioning the accused on remand to establish the full extent of their alleged activities and recover stolen property, if any.
Raj Kumar said the investigation is continuing and that the police expect further cases to be brought to light during the remand period.
The arrests are part of the district police’s stated efforts to check thefts of agricultural equipment, particularly tube-well motors used by farmers for irrigation.
Three motors targeted in one night, police say
According to the police, preliminary investigation has revealed that on August 9, 2026, three tube-well motor cables were allegedly stolen during the same night from the jurisdiction of Budhiya police station.
The police said all four arrested persons are residents of Uttar Pradesh. Investigators are examining their movements and alleged links with the reported theft incidents in Yamunanagar district.
Police officials said one more suspect in the alleged gang is currently absconding. According to the preliminary investigation, the absconding suspect allegedly carried out reconnaissance during the daytime and identified locations that could subsequently be targeted.
Investigation continues after arrests
The Crime Branch-1 team is now questioning the arrested accused to establish whether they were involved in other theft cases reported in the district and surrounding areas.
The police are also examining the alleged role of the absconding suspect and whether the accused had any additional associates. The remand period is expected to help investigators verify statements made during preliminary questioning, trace the alleged sequence of incidents and determine whether stolen motors, wires or other equipment can be recovered.
Police officials said the investigation will also focus on identifying the locations allegedly targeted by the group and matching the accused’s disclosures with complaints and records of previous theft cases.
Tube-well motor thefts can cause financial losses to farmers and disrupt irrigation arrangements, particularly when equipment is removed from agricultural fields. The police have appealed to residents and farmers to remain alert and promptly inform the police about suspicious movement around agricultural fields, tube-wells and other isolated locations.
