Kumari Selja Flags Haryana Unemployment, Recruitment Delays and Women’s Safety
Congress general secretary and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has raised concerns over unemployment, delays in government recruitment and the withdrawal or non-filling of sanctioned posts in Haryana, saying young people need a transparent and predictable recruitment system to build their careers.
In a statement, Selja said educated youth in Haryana were facing prolonged uncertainty while waiting for government recruitment processes to move forward. She argued that vacancies in government departments should be identified and publicly disclosed and that recruitment should be conducted regularly and within defined timelines.
Vacancies and Recruitment Process Under Question
Selja said the government had a responsibility to provide employment opportunities to young people and ensure that recruitment processes did not leave qualified candidates waiting for years.
She referred to the difficulties faced by candidates who prepare for competitive examinations and recruitment drives for long periods but encounter delays, changes in recruitment procedures or uncertainty over vacancies. According to her, such circumstances can make candidates cross age limits or lose opportunities despite having the required qualifications.
Selja has raised similar concerns previously, including questions over advertised posts that she said remained vacant after recruitment exercises. She has also called for greater transparency in the recruitment system and timely filling of sanctioned posts.
Youth Need Transparent and Time-Bound Recruitment
Selja said young people should not have to repeatedly wait for recruitment notifications, examinations, results and appointments without clarity about timelines.
She called for transparent recruitment procedures, equal opportunities and regular hiring against genuinely vacant posts. She also argued that government departments require adequate staffing for efficient delivery of public services and that recruitment policy should take into account both the aspirations of candidates and the staffing needs of the administration.
The issue of recruitment transparency has remained a subject of public and political discussion in Haryana, with concerns also being raised over examination delays and alleged irregularities. Selja has called for a recruitment system in which candidates can clearly understand the process and expected timelines.
Permanent Employment and Public Services
Selja also raised the issue of temporary arrangements in government employment. She said young people seeking stable careers should have access to regular employment opportunities wherever permanent posts are available.
According to her, prolonged dependence on temporary arrangements can create uncertainty for employees while also affecting the functioning of public institutions. She maintained that the recruitment system should provide a clear pathway from notification to examination, selection and appointment.
She further called for the government to make vacancy information easily accessible so that candidates can understand the actual number of posts available in different departments.
Betiyaan Need Safety, Respect and Freedom
In a separate part of her statement, Selja spoke about the safety of women and girls, referring to concerns raised by women students in Delhi University.
She said girls should be able to pursue their education and careers without constantly worrying about their safety. According to Selja, women should feel secure not only inside educational institutions and workplaces but also while travelling between their homes and places of study or employment.
She argued that restricting the education, mobility or opportunities of girls in the name of safety should not be treated as the solution. Instead, she called for effective administrative measures and greater engagement with women students to understand their concerns.
Selja said women deserve equal rights, respect and a safe environment and maintained that ensuring women’s security is a responsibility of the government and administration.
Government Responsibility and Public Expectations
The issues raised by Selja combine two areas of public concern—employment opportunities for young people and safety and equal opportunities for women.
Her position is that government recruitment should be transparent, predictable and time-bound, while administrative authorities should take practical measures to address safety concerns raised by women and students.
For job aspirants, timely recruitment remains particularly important because eligibility conditions, age limits and examination schedules can directly affect their ability to compete. At the same time, official vacancy figures need to be regularly verified because appointments and changes in staffing can alter the number of posts actually available.
The debate therefore involves both the concerns raised by political representatives and the government’s stated recruitment measures. Official vacancy verification and updated departmental records remain important for establishing the current position of available posts.
