Farqpur Police arrested an accused in connection with a case involving the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in Yamunanagar.

Farqpur Police in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district have arrested a man accused of allegedly luring away a 14-year-old girl with the purported intention of marriage and sexually assaulting her. The minor was recovered during the police investigation, medically examined and counselled before the accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
According to the police spokesperson, the action was taken under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the investigation into a complaint filed by the family of the minor.
Police said the case was registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other applicable sections of law. The identity of the minor has been withheld to protect her privacy.
Farqpur Police Station SHO Naseeb Singh said the complaint was filed by a resident of the police station area, who reported that his 14-year-old daughter had left home during the intervening night of August 23 and 24 without informing any family member.
The complainant told police that a young man from the neighbourhood was also found missing from his home around the same time. Based on the circumstances, the family suspected that the accused had allegedly persuaded the minor to leave home with him with the intention of marriage.
Following the complaint, Farqpur Police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant provisions and launched an investigation to trace the minor and apprehend the accused.
A police team led by ASI Irshad was constituted to carry out the investigation and search for the girl. Acting on information gathered during the probe, the police team conducted a search operation and recovered the minor from a house in Nanda Colony belonging to a relative of the accused, police said.
After the recovery, the girl was taken for a medical examination in accordance with the legal procedure. Police also arranged counselling and recorded the information relevant to the investigation.
According to the police, the minor alleged during the course of the investigation that the accused had subjected her to sexual assault without her consent. Based on the allegations and evidence collected during the investigation, police took further action under the applicable provisions of law.
The accused, identified by police as Nadeem alias Kali, a resident of Khadda Colony in Farqpur, was subsequently arrested.
Police said the accused was produced before the competent court after his arrest and was sent to judicial custody. Further investigation in the case is continuing.
The case highlights the serious legal consequences of offences involving minors. Under Indian law, cases involving alleged sexual offences against children are dealt with under the provisions of the POCSO Act along with other applicable criminal laws.
Police officials said the investigation was being conducted in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, including the recovery of the minor, medical examination and counselling. The statements and evidence collected during the investigation will form part of the case proceedings.
The police have not disclosed further details about the minor, and her identity has not been revealed in keeping with legal and ethical requirements aimed at protecting children involved in sexual offence cases.
The arrest comes as police continue to stress the importance of promptly reporting cases involving missing children, suspected abduction or offences against minors. Early reporting can help investigating agencies initiate search operations quickly and ensure that necessary legal and protective procedures are followed.
Farqpur Police said the accused had been arrested on the basis of the investigation conducted so far and that the matter remains under further investigation.
The police also reiterated that offences involving children are treated with seriousness and investigated under the relevant provisions of law. Authorities have urged members of the public to report suspected crimes involving minors to the police without delay so that timely action can be taken.
Further legal proceedings in the case will continue in accordance with the investigation and directions of the court.
