Congress MP says Centre must answer on rising prices, fuel policy, public welfare and regional challenges affecting Haryana

Congress MP from Sirsa and former Union Minister Kumari Selja has said she will raise a wide range of national as well as constituency-specific issues during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, asserting that concerns affecting students, farmers, youth and ordinary citizens deserve urgent attention in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing the media in New Delhi on the opening day of the session, Selja said the Congress would seek discussions on issues including inflation, rising petroleum prices, student-related concerns, the reported temple theft incident, and several other matters of public importance. She alleged that while people across the country continue to struggle with rising living costs, the government has failed to provide meaningful relief.
“The burden of inflation has fallen heavily on poor and middle-class families. Instead of offering effective solutions, the government is relying on announcements and publicity,” she said.
Referring to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Selja cautioned that any prolonged instability could further impact global energy markets and India’s economy. She urged the Centre to clearly outline its strategy for protecting consumers from a potential rise in fuel prices and mitigating its impact on household budgets.
The Congress leader also questioned the implementation of the ethanol-blended fuel policy, saying consumers continue to face confusion due to inadequate awareness and the absence of a robust support system.
She claimed that motorists have reported technical issues after using blended fuel and argued that there is still no universally accepted quality assurance mechanism or accessible infrastructure enabling consumers to independently verify fuel standards.
Shifting focus to Haryana, Selja said she would strongly highlight issues affecting Sirsa and other parts of the state during the parliamentary session. She pointed to the long-standing public health concerns in the Ghaggar belt, where residents have repeatedly raised concerns over cancer cases and contaminated drinking water.
She also referred to recurring shortages of electricity and potable water in several parts of Haryana, saying both the Centre and the state government must work towards long-term solutions instead of temporary measures.
Emphasising the role of the Opposition in a parliamentary democracy, Selja said its responsibility extends beyond criticising the government and includes ensuring that the concerns of citizens are effectively represented in Parliament.
She expressed confidence that she would present both national and regional public issues before the Lok Sabha with facts and supporting evidence during the Monsoon Session.
