Sirsa MP, former Union Cabinet Minister, Congress national general secretary, Uttarakhand in-charge and Congress Working Committee member Kumari Selja extended warm Diwali greetings to people across the country and Haryana.

Selja was speaking on the occasion of a Diwali get-together held at the residence of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. She said Diwali was not merely a festival of lighting lamps, but also a resolve to remove darkness, hatred, fear and discrimination from society and spread the light of love, harmony and brotherhood.

She said the country needed an atmosphere in which the Constitution remained supreme, democratic institutions functioned independently and impartially, and every citizen could express their views without fear.

Kumari Selja said the Congress was committed to protecting democracy, secularism, social justice and constitutional values. Expressing concern over the policies of the present government, she said the country needed to move away from what she described as pressure on democratic institutions, suppression of dissent and politics of religious polarisation.

She wished that Diwali would bring renewed light for a healthy democracy, social harmony, economic prosperity and equitable development across the country.

Selja said the Congress family would remain united and continue its struggle in the public interest, for protection of the Constitution and for the dignity of every citizen.

Diwali Message: Light, Fraternity and Constitutional Spirit

In her message, Selja linked the spirit of Diwali with the values of mutual respect, togetherness and hope. She said the festival should inspire people to build a society where differences do not become a source of division and where citizens can live with dignity and confidence.

She called for strengthening democratic traditions and ensuring that public institutions serve all citizens fairly. Her message also emphasised the need for unity and collective efforts to safeguard constitutional principles and promote inclusive progress.

Selja extended her wishes for peace, happiness and prosperity, expressing hope that the festival would encourage people to work towards a more compassionate and harmonious India.
