Proclaimed Offender in Special Drive
Yamunanagar police have arrested a man who had been declared a proclaimed offender by a court, as part of a district-wide drive against absconders and bail jumpers, according to a police spokesperson. The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody as further legal proceedings were initiated.
The arrest was made by a team of the Police Offender (P.O.) Staff acting under the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. Police said the team, led by P.O. Staff in-charge Inspector Jagbir Singh, acted on specific information and apprehended the accused, identified as Amit alias Lotta, son of Varinder, a resident of Bilaspur.
Special Drive Against Absconders and Bail Jumpers
According to the police, the district force has been conducting a special campaign to trace and arrest persons who are absconding from the legal process, including those declared proclaimed offenders and individuals accused of violating bail conditions. The latest arrest forms part of these continuing efforts, police said.
The police spokesperson said the campaign is intended to ensure that accused persons who fail to appear before the courts are brought back into the judicial process. Teams have been directed to develop information about such persons and take action in accordance with the law.
Team Led by Inspector Jagbir Singh
Police said a dedicated team was constituted under the leadership of Inspector Jagbir Singh, in-charge of the P.O. Staff. The team included Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashwini and Head Constables Sandeep, Mahavir and Rajat. The members worked jointly to locate the accused and verify information received about his whereabouts.
Acting on a tip-off, the team successfully apprehended Amit alias Lotta. Police said he had been involved in a criminal case and had been declared a proclaimed offender by the court after failing to appear in the proceedings. He had allegedly been evading arrest and was being traced by the police team.
Arrest Brings Accused Back Into Judicial Process
The arrest means that the accused has now been brought before the court for further proceedings. Police said he was produced before the court after his arrest and was subsequently sent to judicial custody. The underlying criminal case will continue through the appropriate legal process.
Being declared a proclaimed offender relates to a person’s failure to appear before the court in accordance with the judicial process; it does not by itself determine guilt in the underlying criminal case. The allegations against the accused remain subject to the proceedings before the competent court.
SP Commends Team’s Action
The Superintendent of Police has appreciated the work of the P.O. Staff team, according to the police spokesperson. The department said the drive against persons evading the judicial process would continue with the same focus in the district.
Police said sustained action against absconders and bail jumpers is part of its broader effort to strengthen law enforcement and ensure compliance with court proceedings. Further action in individual cases will be taken in accordance with the evidence available and the directions of the competent courts.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings Continue
With the arrest, police said the accused has been placed back within the judicial process. The department indicated that investigations in the underlying case and any further legal requirements would proceed according to law.
