Yamunanagar Police Tightens Security at Petrol Pumps, Orders Better CCTV Surveillance

Yamunanagar Police has stepped up security measures at petrol pumps across the district, directing operators to install good-quality CCTV cameras and follow a set of precautions aimed at improving surveillance and assisting investigations in case of any criminal incident.

The directions have been issued on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. As part of the initiative, police officials are interacting with petrol pump operators and discussing measures to strengthen security at fuel stations. The latest meeting was conducted by Chhappar police station in-charge Pramod Walia with petrol pump operators in the area.

Police Focus on Clear CCTV Coverage

During the meeting, Pramod Walia asked petrol pump operators to install high-quality CCTV cameras capable of recording clear images of vehicles and people visiting the premises. The cameras, he said, should be positioned strategically so that the entry and exit points of the petrol pump as well as vehicles arriving for refuelling remain under effective surveillance.

The police said the purpose of the CCTV requirement is to improve monitoring of activities at petrol pumps and ensure that useful visual evidence is available to investigators if a criminal incident occurs. Clear footage can assist police in identifying vehicles, persons and the sequence of events during an investigation.

No Fuel for Vehicles Without Number Plates

A key instruction issued during the meeting was that petrol pump operators should not dispense petrol or diesel to vehicles without number plates. The police stressed that vehicles using public roads should carry proper number plates and asked operators to remain alert when dealing with vehicles arriving under suspicious circumstances.

The police further advised petrol pump operators to inform the authorities about suspicious vehicles or activities. The measure is intended to improve the identification of vehicles visiting fuel stations and support police efforts to respond to potentially suspicious activity.

Regular Checking of Cameras and Safe Storage of Footage

The police station in-charge also instructed operators to check their CCTV cameras regularly and ensure that the systems remain functional at all times. Operators were told to pay particular attention to the safe storage of recordings so that footage is not lost when it is needed for verification or investigation.

The instructions cover not only the installation of cameras but also their maintenance and positioning. Police officials emphasised that a CCTV system can be useful only when cameras provide clear images and recordings remain accessible when required.

Police-Petrol Pump Coordination Emphasised

Pramod Walia urged petrol pump operators to take the security directions seriously and cooperate with the police in maintaining vigilance. He said better coordination between police personnel and fuel station operators can contribute to strengthening security arrangements at petrol pumps.

The police maintained that adherence to security precautions would help improve monitoring of activities at fuel stations and facilitate timely action when suspicious activity is noticed. The operators were encouraged to remain alert and communicate relevant information to the police without delay.
