Crime Branch-2 intercepts white S-Presso near Chhapar Rest House; accused sent on five-day police remand to trace drug supply and distribution network

In a major action against narcotics trafficking, the Yamunanagar Police have arrested two alleged drug traffickers and recovered 5.718 kg of charas, also known as sulfa, from a Himachal Pradesh-registered car. Police said the seized contraband is estimated to be worth around ₹12 lakh.
Addressing journalists, DSP Rajat Gulia said the action was carried out under a special campaign against narcotics trafficking being conducted under the guidance and directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. Various police teams in the district are carrying out intensified operations against the illegal trade in narcotic substances, he said.
As part of the campaign, a team of Crime Branch-2, Yamunanagar, intercepted a white S-Presso car bearing registration number HP01 AA 0729 late at night and recovered the charas from the vehicle.
Two persons were travelling in the car at the time of the interception. They were identified by police as Milap Chand, son of Duni Chand, a resident of Jathedral village under Anni police station in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, and Nitesh Kumar alias Nitu, son of Kaul Ram, a resident of Kandadhara village under Anni police station in Kullu district.
According to the police, a case was registered against the two accused under relevant provisions in FIR No. 192 dated August 24, 2026, and further legal action has been initiated.
Both accused were produced before a court and subsequently taken on five-day police remand. Investigators are now questioning them to determine the source of the narcotics, the intended destination of the consignment and the wider network allegedly involved in its purchase and supply.
DSP Rajat Gulia said Crime Branch-2 In-charge Rakesh Kumar and his team had received specific intelligence that some persons travelling in a white Himachal Pradesh-registered vehicle were carrying narcotic substances and would pass through the area using the National Highway.
Acting on the information, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Surender, ASI Arun, Sunil, Head Constable Rajiv and Constable Amit was formed. The team immediately moved into the area and intercepted the suspected vehicle near Chhapar Rest House.
Police said a Duty Magistrate was also called to the spot as part of the legal procedure, following which further action was carried out and the narcotic substance was recovered from the vehicle.
The seizure is being treated as a significant development in the district police’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. Police are now examining whether the accused were part of a larger inter-state narcotics network operating between Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and other regions.
During the five-day remand, investigators will seek to establish the links of the accused with other persons allegedly involved in the narcotics trade. The police will also investigate where the charas was procured, how it was transported and the areas where it was intended to be supplied.
DSP Gulia said the police would thoroughly investigate the network connected with the accused and take action against all those found involved. He added that the district police would continue its campaign to identify and dismantle narcotics trafficking networks.
Police officials said the focus of the ongoing investigation is not limited to the two arrests but also includes tracing the alleged supply chain behind the recovered contraband. Further developments in the case are expected as the investigation and questioning of the accused continue.
The Yamunanagar Police reiterated that strict action would continue against individuals involved in the illegal trade, transportation and distribution of narcotic substances. The campaign against drug trafficking, DSP Rajat Gulia said, will continue with the objective of breaking such networks at their source and preventing the supply of narcotics in the district.
