Students encouraged to register as new voters and participate actively in the democratic process; Gagan, Pragdeep Kaur and Viekul Kadian among top performers in awareness activities

As part of the Special Intensive Revision campaign being conducted under the directions of the Election Commission of India, a voter awareness and registration camp was organised at Government College, Chhachhrauli, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
The camp was organised in accordance with the directions of Electoral Registration Officer and SDM Bilaspur, Dr Kuldeep Singh, with the objective of encouraging eligible young citizens to register themselves as voters and ensure their participation in the democratic process.
During the programme, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and the Principal of Government College, Chhachhrauli, provided students with detailed guidance regarding the voter registration process. The students were informed about the importance of having their names included in the electoral rolls and the procedures required for new voter registration.
Officials said that every eligible student who has completed 18 years of age should ensure that his or her name is registered in the voter list. They stressed that participation in the electoral process is not only a constitutional right but also an important responsibility of every citizen.
The awareness camp focused particularly on motivating first-time voters to become part of the electoral system. Students were encouraged to understand the significance of voting and to participate actively in democratic activities.
Addressing the students, officials highlighted that a strong democracy depends on the active participation of its citizens. For this reason, every eligible citizen should first ensure registration in the electoral roll and subsequently exercise the right to vote during elections.
The speakers said that young voters play an important role in shaping the future of democracy. With a large number of students becoming eligible to vote after attaining the age of 18, educational institutions can play a significant role in spreading awareness about voter registration and electoral participation.
Students participated enthusiastically in the camp and took part in various voter awareness activities organised during the programme. The activities were aimed at increasing understanding of the electoral process while encouraging young people to recognise the importance of their participation in elections.
In the activities conducted during the programme, Gagan secured the first position. Pragdeep Kaur and Viekul Kadian jointly secured the second position, while Kartik secured the third position.
The winners were honoured by the Principal of Government College, Chhachhrauli, at the conclusion of the programme. The students were congratulated for their participation and encouraged to continue contributing to voter awareness and other democratic activities in the future.
The organisers said that such programmes are important for ensuring that eligible young citizens do not remain outside the electoral process. Awareness and registration camps can help students understand the procedures involved in getting their names included in the voter list and make them more confident about participating in elections.
The Special Intensive Revision campaign is being conducted with the objective of improving the accuracy of electoral rolls and ensuring the inclusion of all eligible citizens. Through SVEEP activities, the administration is also working to create greater awareness among different sections of society, particularly young and first-time voters.
Officials urged students who have attained the required age but are not yet registered as voters to complete the registration process and take an active role in strengthening democracy. They also encouraged students to spread awareness among their families, friends and communities about the importance of voter registration.
The programme concluded with an appeal to the students to remain actively involved in democratic activities and to recognise voting as an important means of participating in the country’s governance and development.
Election Kanungo Rajat Kumar, Shivam, Political Science Professor Satbir, teacher Mrs Sukhwinder, along with college students, faculty members and other staff, were present on the occasion.
