Yamunanagar Police have reported three separate developments involving child-protection law, drug enforcement and the use of CCTV surveillance for crime prevention. According to police, Chhappar Police arrested a 75-year-old man in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested an alleged supplier connected with a 110-gram heroin seizure, and Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal appealed to residents and shopkeepers to strengthen surveillance by installing good-quality CCTV cameras.

The three updates were issued by the district police as part of its continuing efforts to investigate reported offences, trace alleged drug supply networks and use technology to assist crime prevention and investigation. The cases are separate and are being dealt with under their respective legal procedures.

75-Year-Old Suspect Arrested in POCSO Case»

According to the police spokesperson, Chhappar Police arrested a 75-year-old man in connection with a complaint involving an alleged incident with a 13-year-old girl. Police said the complaint was submitted by the girl’s mother, who alleged that the accused, identified by police as Jasmer Singh, a resident of the same village, had taken the child to his house and behaved inappropriately with her.

Police said a case was registered under the POCSO Act and other applicable provisions after the complaint was received. A team was constituted under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Ruchi to arrest the accused. Police said the team acted promptly and arrested Jasmer Singh.

The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody, according to the police. The investigation remains in progress.

LEGAL NOTE
The allegation in the POCSO case is reported on the basis of the police complaint and police statement. An arrest or allegation does not establish guilt; the matter remains subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The identity and personal details of the minor have not been published.

Alleged Heroin Supplier Arrested After 110-Gram Seizure»

In a separate drug enforcement operation, the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested a man whom police identified as an alleged main supplier connected with a 110-gram heroin seizure made on September 28. Police said the earlier arrest involved Rakesh alias Kallu, a resident of Durga Garden, who was allegedly found in possession of 110 grams of heroin, also referred to as smack.

According to Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar, questioning of Rakesh allegedly led investigators to Surajbhan alias Sameer, son of Ramesh Chand, a resident of Mehlawali village. Police said Rakesh had told investigators that he had obtained the substance from Surajbhan.

Acting on the information, the Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested Surajbhan. Police said he was produced before the court and taken on remand for further investigation.

The investigation is continuing, according to police. Investigators are expected to examine the alleged supply chain, the source of the narcotic substance and any other persons or transactions that may emerge during the proceedings.

Police Push for Wider CCTV Coverage»

Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal urges residents to verify tenants and domestic workers
Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal

In another public-safety initiative, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal has appealed to residents and business owners across the district to install CCTV cameras and cooperate with police in strengthening surveillance. Police said CCTV footage is often among the first sources examined after a crime is reported, helping investigators identify suspects, trace movements and establish a sequence of events.

The Superintendent has directed police station heads to maintain information about CCTV cameras installed in their respective areas. According to police, the use of technology has become increasingly important in crime prevention, investigation and evidence gathering.

Police also said the presence of CCTV cameras can act as a deterrent to anti-social activity. At the same time, officials pointed out that cameras are useful only when they provide sufficiently clear footage and remain functional.

Shopkeepers Asked to Install Cameras Outside Premises»

The police appeal specifically encourages shopkeepers to install at least two cameras outside their establishments, where feasible, so that activity on roads and the movement of suspicious persons can be monitored. Police advised residents and business owners to consider good-quality cameras because poor image quality can make identification difficult even when a suspect is visible in the footage.

Police further noted that in some incidents, suspects allegedly damage or tamper with CCTV cameras after carrying out an offence, which can affect subsequent investigation. Maintaining cameras at suitable locations and ensuring that footage is securely stored can therefore assist investigators when an incident occurs.

Technology and Public Cooperation»

Police have appealed to residents in all police station areas to consider installing CCTV cameras at homes, shops or outside commercial premises where possible. The stated objective is to improve surveillance and provide investigators with additional evidence in cases involving theft, other offences and public-safety concerns.

According to the police, CCTV surveillance can also support efforts related to women’s safety and help authorities monitor activity in public areas. The police have stressed that technology works most effectively when combined with timely reporting and cooperation from residents.

The three police updates underline different aspects of the district’s law-enforcement work: investigation of a serious child-protection allegation, action against an alleged narcotics supplier and greater use of technology to support crime prevention. While the first two matters remain subject to legal proceedings, the CCTV appeal is aimed at encouraging preventive participation from the public.

This report is based on information provided by Yamunanagar Police. Allegations, disclosures attributed to accused persons and police assessments are reported as police statements and are not presented as final findings of guilt.
