The Crime Branch-1 team of Yamunanagar Police has arrested two more alleged main accused in connection with the death of 23-year-old Shiva Tyagi following a violent assault in Housing Board Sector-18. Police identified the arrested men as Ashish Thakur and Ankit, a resident of Bharat Sevak Nagar. Both were produced before a court and taken on remand for further investigation, police said.

According to the police, the arrests were made by the Crime Branch-1 team while acting under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. Crime Branch-1 in-charge Raj Kumar said the investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault and the subsequent death of the young man.

Police said Shiva Tyagi, a resident of Mahadev village in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, had come to stay with his uncle Vicky in Housing Board Sector-18 on September 3. Ashish Thakur, who is known to Shiva’s uncle and lives in the neighbourhood, was also involved in a domestic dispute with his wife around that time.

Dispute During Attempt at Reconciliation

The police account states that on September 7, Shiva and his uncle went to Ashish’s house in an attempt to help resolve the dispute between Ashish and his wife. During the interaction, an argument reportedly broke out and Ashish allegedly used abusive language. Shiva and his uncle subsequently left the premises, according to the investigation details shared by police.

Police alleged that the following day, Ashish, along with his brother Himanshu and several others identified as Kanika, Lakshya and Badal, among a group of around eight to ten people, attacked Shiva and his uncle. The assault allegedly involved sticks and iron rods. Shiva sustained a serious head injury during the incident.

Shiva Referred to PGI, Later Died During Treatment

Following the assault, Shiva was admitted to hospital for treatment. As his condition required specialised care, he was subsequently referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, police said. He later died during treatment.

Police said a case relating to the altercation had initially been registered on September 10. After Shiva’s death, the relevant murder provision was added to the case. The investigation is now being conducted in light of the fatal outcome, with the arrested suspects being questioned during police remand.

One Accused Had Already Been Arrested

The latest arrests follow the earlier arrest of Raj Kumar alias Lukka, a resident of Khera Farm, in the same case. Police said he had already been arrested and sent to judicial custody. With the arrests of Ashish Thakur and Ankit, the investigation has moved further towards identifying the role of each person allegedly involved in the assault.

The remand of the two newly arrested accused is expected to assist investigators in questioning them about the sequence of events, the alleged participation of other persons and other aspects relevant to the case. Police have not stated that the investigation has concluded, and further legal proceedings will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.

Investigation Continues

The Housing Board Sector-18 case has raised serious questions about how a neighbourhood dispute escalated into a violent confrontation resulting in the death of a young man. For the police, the immediate focus remains on establishing the complete sequence of events and determining the individual roles of all persons named or suspected in the case.

The arrests are part of the ongoing investigation and do not by themselves establish guilt. The allegations against the accused will be tested through the judicial process. Further developments, including the outcome of police questioning, investigation findings and court proceedings, will determine the next legal steps in the matter.

NEWS NOTE: This report is based on information provided by Yamunanagar Police. Allegations against the arrested persons are reported as allegations, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court. The investigation and court proceedings are ongoing.
