Yamunanagar Anti-Narcotics Team Arrests Man with 150 Grams of Heroin
Yamunanagar Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell has arrested a man with 150 grams of suspected heroin (smack) near Hathnikund Barrage, police said, as part of its ongoing action against alleged drug trafficking in the district.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ankush, son of Jasbir Singh, a resident of Durga Garden. A case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and he was produced before a court and taken on remand for further investigation.
Police said the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar said the team had received information that a young man carrying narcotic substances would enter Haryana on foot from Uttar Pradesh near Hathnikund Barrage.
Acting on the information, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Om Prakash, Assistant Sub-Inspector Kuldeep, Jasvir Singh, Monu, Ravi, Sultan and Manjit Singh was constituted and sent to the area.
The team reportedly reached the location and detained a man who was moving around the area. Police said a duty magistrate, AETO Mahavir Singh, was called to the spot, and the search of the detained person was conducted in his presence.
During the search, police said, 150 grams of heroin (smack) was allegedly recovered from his possession.
Police say investigation underway
Following the alleged recovery, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against Ankush. Police said he was subsequently produced before the court and taken on remand.
According to Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar, investigators will question the accused during remand to determine the alleged source of the narcotic substance and where it was intended to be supplied.
The police said further investigation is underway and that details regarding the suspected supply network, if established during the investigation, will be examined as part of the case.
Action against suspected drug trafficking
The arrest is part of the district police’s stated efforts to take action against suspected drug trafficking and the movement of narcotic substances. Police officials have repeatedly emphasised the need to identify the sources and distribution channels through which illegal drugs allegedly reach local areas.
The Hathnikund Barrage area is significant from a policing perspective because of its location near the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border. Police checks and intelligence-based action in such areas can form part of efforts to detect the movement of suspected contraband.
The latest case, however, remains subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The alleged recovery and the police version will be tested through the legal process.
Further questioning during remand
Police said the accused would be questioned about the alleged source of the substance, the intended destination and any possible links with other persons involved in its movement or distribution.
Investigators are also expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged entry from Uttar Pradesh into Haryana and establish the sequence of events leading to the recovery.
The police have maintained that the investigation is continuing and that further facts will emerge as the case progresses.
