Yamunanagar Police to Observe October as National Cyber Security Month
SP Kamaldeep Goyal directs district-wide awareness drive to help residents identify online fraud and protect their digital accounts
YAMUNANAGAR | PEN OF DEMOCRACY NEWS DESK
Yamunanagar District Police has decided to observe October as National Cyber Security Month and launch a month-long awareness campaign to protect residents from the growing threat of online fraud. Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal has directed police officers and station in-charges to conduct special awareness programmes across the district from October 1 to October 31.
The campaign will focus not only on urban areas but also on villages and towns, with the aim of taking basic cyber-safety information to people across the district. Police said cyber fraudsters are continuously adopting new methods to trap unsuspecting people and carry out online financial fraud, making awareness and timely reporting increasingly important.
Awareness Programmes to Be Held Across the District»
SP Kamaldeep Goyal has issued necessary directions to supervisory officers and police station in-charges for effective action against cybercrime. Awareness programmes will be organised at the police station level, where residents will be informed about emerging methods of online fraud and practical steps that can help them avoid becoming victims.
The police will also seek to involve different sections of society, including women, children, students, traders and other community groups. The objective is to ensure that cyber-safety information reaches people with different levels of exposure to digital technology and online services.
Strong Passwords and Two-Factor Security to Be Emphasised»
During the campaign, residents will be encouraged to use strong and secure passwords and activate two-factor authentication wherever available. Police will also educate people about keeping mobile phones, applications and software updated and using social media platforms carefully.
Special attention will be given to safe online transactions. Residents will be advised to remain cautious while making digital payments and avoid sharing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, one-time passwords and other account credentials with unknown persons.
Police Stress Immediate Reporting of Cyber Fraud»
SP Kamaldeep Goyal has urged people not to panic or remain silent if they become victims of cyber fraud. He advised victims to immediately report the incident by calling the national cybercrime helpline number 1930.
According to the police, early reporting can increase the possibility of stopping or recovering the money involved in an online fraud. The police have therefore emphasised that immediate reporting is one of the most important steps a victim can take after discovering a cybercrime.
Training Sessions to Promote Safer Digital Habits»
The month-long campaign will include regular training and awareness sessions. Residents will be guided on using two-step security measures, creating strong passwords and enabling security features such as face recognition and fingerprint locks on mobile devices and online accounts where appropriate.
The district police said the broader objective is to take the message of cyber safety to every household in Yamunanagar so that people can understand changing methods used by cyber fraudsters and remain alert while using digital services. Police said cooperation between law-enforcement agencies and the public is essential for preventing cybercrime and improving online safety.
