Women and students at bus stand educated on emergency services, trip monitoring and legal safety measures

As part of its ongoing Safe City Campaign, the Yamunanagar Police organised a public awareness programme at the Yamunanagar Bus Stand, educating women and girl students about emergency response services, personal safety and digital policing initiatives aimed at ensuring safer travel.
The awareness drive was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, with the district police continuing its efforts to strengthen women’s safety through regular outreach programmes across the district.
Leading the campaign, ASI Neelam of the Safe City Police Team interacted with women commuters and students, explaining the importance of the 112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and assisting them in downloading the 112 mobile application on their smartphones.
During the programme, ASI Neelam demonstrated how the app enables users to seek immediate police assistance during emergencies with the press of a single button. She explained that the application automatically shares the user’s live location with the police control room, allowing emergency responders to reach the location quickly and provide timely assistance.
The Safe City team also educated participants about the Trip Monitoring Service, encouraging women travelling alone to share details such as the vehicle registration number, driver’s name, travel route and destination with the police. Officials said the facility allows police to monitor journeys and respond promptly if any emergency or security concern arises during transit.
Women and students were also sensitised about various crimes, including eve-teasing, stalking, obscene remarks, online harassment and domestic violence. ASI Neelam urged participants not to remain silent in the face of such offences and advised them to report incidents to the police without hesitation.
She assured the participants that complaints related to crimes against women are handled with complete confidentiality and that the police are committed to taking prompt and effective legal action.
The police spokesperson said the primary objective of the Safe City initiative is to empower women and girls with knowledge about their legal rights, emergency services and available safety mechanisms so they can feel more confident and secure in public spaces.
Participants were also informed about women’s helpline numbers, emergency assistance services and legal protections available to victims of harassment and violence.
The spokesperson added that the Yamunanagar Police will continue organising similar awareness programmes at bus stands, railway stations, educational institutions, markets and other crowded public places to strengthen women’s safety and promote greater public awareness across the district.
