DC Says timely assistance can save lives; appeals to public to support Good Samaritan initiative and follow road safety rules

Deputy Commissioner Preeti has urged citizens to come forward and assist victims of road accidents, saying that timely help during the “Golden Hour” can significantly improve the chances of saving a person’s life.
Highlighting the importance of immediate medical assistance, the Deputy Commissioner said helping an injured person is not only a humanitarian responsibility but also a vital step in preventing avoidable deaths.
“The first hour after a road accident is crucial. If an injured person receives prompt medical treatment during this period, the likelihood of survival increases considerably. Every citizen should act with compassion and help accident victims without hesitation,” she said.
DC Preeti also highlighted the Good Samaritan initiative of the Central and State Governments, which protects people who voluntarily assist road accident victims from unnecessary legal or administrative complications.
She appealed to the public to actively participate in this humanitarian effort and assured that Good Samaritans are encouraged and protected under the existing guidelines.
Emphasising that road safety is a shared responsibility, the Deputy Commissioner urged motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations, adhere to speed limits and always wear seat belts and helmets while driving or riding.
She also cautioned against drunken driving, stating that driving under the influence of alcohol not only endangers the driver’s life but also poses a serious risk to other road users. She warned that strict legal action is taken against those found driving under the influence.
“Every road accident affects not only the victim but also leaves the entire family facing lifelong emotional and financial challenges. Responsible driving and timely assistance to accident victims can save many precious lives,” she said.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens, especially young drivers, to avoid rash and negligent driving and to immediately inform emergency services whenever they witness a road accident.
She encouraged people not to hesitate in taking injured persons to the nearest hospital, stressing that quick action and public cooperation are essential to reducing fatalities and making roads safer for everyone.

Model Sanskriti School Joins ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign with Plantation Drive

A large-scale plantation drive was organised at Model Sanskriti Government Senior Secondary School, Sarawan, under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation and sustainable living.

The programme was jointly presided over by District Project Officer (Samagra Shiksha) K.S. Sandhawa and Shashi Sandhawa. Among the dignitaries present were Zila Parishad Chairman Ramesh Chand Thaska, Block Education Officer Dharam Singh Rathi, School Principal Rajnish Gupta, teachers, students and local residents.

Addressing the gathering, K.S. Sandhawa highlighted the growing importance of environmental protection and said tree plantation is one of the most effective ways to preserve ecological balance.

He urged every student to plant at least one sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and take responsibility for nurturing it until it grows into a healthy tree.

“If we want to provide a clean, healthy and sustainable environment for future generations, we must not only plant more trees but also ensure their proper care and protection,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Chand Thaska said rising pollution and environmental degradation are contributing to several health problems, making tree plantation an urgent necessity.

He stressed that protecting nature is a shared responsibility and encouraged citizens to care for planted saplings until they become fully grown trees.

At the conclusion of the programme, students, teachers and other participants took a collective pledge to plant more trees and actively contribute to environmental conservation. The Scout and Guide team was also honoured by K.S. Sandhawa with appreciation mementoes for their enthusiastic participation in the plantation campaign.
