Yamunanagar Police Warn Against Cyber Fraud; Theft Accused Held in Separate Operation

Yamunanagar Police have issued a detailed public warning against cyber fraudsters posing as bank officials or credit-card representatives, while a separate police operation has resulted in the arrest of a man accused of stealing articles from a locked house in Bilaspur. The two developments highlight the police focus on both preventing digital financial fraud and pursuing conventional property offences.
SP Warns Against Fake Bank and Credit-Card Calls
Police advise residents to independently verify banking communications and never disclose OTP, CVV, PIN or other confidential credentials.
According to the police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, IPS, has appealed to the public to remain vigilant against cyber criminals who allegedly impersonate bank officials or credit-card representatives. Police said such fraudsters may contact people with offers involving an increase in credit-card limits, redemption of reward points, cashback benefits or other attractive banking services.
The police advisory states that the purpose of such approaches may be to obtain confidential banking information or persuade the targeted person to open a fraudulent link or install an unauthorised application. Residents have therefore been advised not to click on unknown links received through telephone messages, SMS or WhatsApp, particularly when the communication relates to financial offers or account services.
SP Goyal has specifically advised people not to share one-time passwords (OTP), card verification values (CVV), personal identification numbers (PIN), card numbers, expiry dates, internet-banking passwords or other sensitive banking information with unknown callers or through messaging platforms.
Police have also reminded residents that genuine banks do not normally ask customers to disclose sensitive authentication information such as OTPs, PINs or CVVs through phone calls or WhatsApp messages. If a caller claims to be a bank employee and asks for such information, residents should end the call and verify the matter independently.
Verify Banking Requests Through Official Channels
Residents have been advised to verify any claim relating to KYC updates, card blocking, credit-limit enhancement or special offers through the bank’s official website, official mobile application, verified customer-care number or the nearest bank branch. Police have cautioned against relying on telephone numbers, links or applications supplied by an unknown caller.
The advisory also warns against downloading APK files, screen-sharing applications or remote-access software at the direction of unidentified persons. Such applications can potentially provide unauthorised access to a mobile device or expose information stored on it. Police have therefore asked residents to avoid entering card details or banking credentials on suspicious websites or links.
For people who have already become victims of cyber fraud, police have advised immediate reporting through the national cybercrime helpline **1930** and the official cybercrime portal, **cybercrime.gov.in**. The police said that prompt reporting may improve the possibility of taking timely steps to place the defrauded amount on hold.
Separate Theft Case Leads to Arrest in Bilaspur
In a separate development, the Special Cell-cum-Anti Narcotic Cell-II team of Yamunanagar Police arrested a man in connection with the alleged theft of household articles from a locked and unoccupied house in Bilaspur. Police said stolen property was recovered from the accused and that he was subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
Raman Chandel, in-charge of the team, said the case was registered after a woman from Ram Colony, Bilaspur, submitted a complaint on September 11. According to the complaint, she owned a house in Bilaspur that had remained vacant. Her neighbours informed her that the lock of the property had been broken.
When the woman reached the house, she allegedly found that the lock had been damaged and that an inverter battery and other household articles kept inside the premises were missing. Following the complaint, a case was registered at the concerned police station and a team was constituted to identify and apprehend the person allegedly responsible for the break-in.
Police said the team subsequently received confidential information and arrested a suspect identified as Deepak alias Guru Joda, son of Kala alias Shambhu Nath, a resident of Deha Basti. The police said stolen property was recovered from his possession.
Accused Sent to Judicial Custody
After the arrest and recovery proceedings, police produced the accused before the court, which sent him to judicial custody. The investigation will establish the complete circumstances of the alleged break-in, the movement of the recovered property and whether any additional persons were involved.
Police said the action was taken under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. The case remains subject to the legal process, and the allegations against the accused are not a final determination of guilt.
Public Vigilance and Timely Reporting
The two police updates concern different forms of public safety but share an emphasis on vigilance and timely action. In the cyber-fraud advisory, residents are being asked to protect confidential financial information, question unsolicited offers and verify banking communications through official channels. In the theft case, police action followed a complaint after a locked property was allegedly broken into and articles were reported missing.
For digital transactions, basic precautions can reduce exposure to common impersonation tactics. Residents should avoid sharing authentication credentials, should not install unknown applications at another person’s request and should independently contact their bank whenever a message or call creates pressure to act immediately.
Similarly, owners of vacant properties can remain alert by maintaining contact with neighbours and arranging periodic checks of locked premises. Any suspected break-in should be reported to the police promptly so that evidence and relevant information can be examined during the investigation.
Police Appeal for Caution
Yamunanagar Police have appealed to residents to remain cautious while dealing with unknown callers, suspicious financial offers and unfamiliar digital links. The cybercrime advisory places particular emphasis on protecting banking credentials and reporting suspected fraud without delay.
At the same time, the arrest reported in the Bilaspur theft case demonstrates the police response following a complaint of property theft. Further proceedings in the case will continue according to law.
