Anti-Narcotic Cell Acts on Secret Information; Police Say Accused Was Allegedly Involved in Drug Supply While Staying at Her Maternal Home

The Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Yamunanagar Police has arrested a woman in connection with an alleged drug trafficking case and recovered 54 grams of heroin (smack) from her possession, according to the police. The arrest was made following information received by the Anti-Narcotic Cell regarding alleged drug-selling activity in Lalhadi Kalan village.
Police said the action was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of efforts to curb the supply and distribution of narcotic substances in the district.
According to the police spokesperson, the woman was allegedly involved in selling drugs while staying at her maternal home. A case has been registered against her under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police said the accused would be produced before a court and that investigators would seek remand for further questioning. The purpose of the investigation will include establishing the source of the suspected narcotic substance, determining whether the accused was supplying it to other persons and identifying any other individuals who may be connected with the alleged activity.
The Anti-Narcotic Cell team was constituted after its officials received a specific input that a woman was allegedly involved in selling narcotics in Lalhadi Kalan.
Anti-Narcotic Cell in-charge Anil Kumar said that after receiving the information, a team comprising Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar, ASI Rajendra Singh, Pankaj, Woman ASI Manjit Kaur, Constable Preeti and Constable Vimal was formed to verify the information and take action in accordance with law.
The police team subsequently reached the location and apprehended the woman.
As part of the procedure, Duty Magistrate AETO Preeti Tomar was called to the spot. Police said the search of the apprehended woman was conducted in the presence of the duty magistrate, during which 54 grams of suspected heroin (smack) was allegedly recovered from her possession.
The accused was identified by police as Priyanka alias Priya, wife of Tek Chand, a resident of Haiderpur. Police said that although her residential address is in Haiderpur, she had been staying at her maternal home in Lalhadi Kalan, where she was allegedly involved in selling narcotics.
Following the alleged recovery, a case was registered against her under the NDPS Act.
Police said the recovery and arrest would now form part of the investigation, with the accused being questioned after being produced before the court.
The police have also stated that the woman has a previous case related to alleged drug trafficking registered against her. That earlier case is currently pending before the court, according to the Anti-Narcotic Cell.
Officials said the latest action was part of the district police’s continuing efforts to identify and take legal action against people allegedly involved in the illegal supply of narcotic substances.
The Anti-Narcotic Cell has been working on information regarding suspected drug networks and individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of narcotics. Police said information provided by members of the public can also play an important role in identifying locations where illegal drug activity may be taking place.
The latest operation began with a secret input regarding alleged drug-selling activity in Lalhadi Kalan. Following verification and the formation of the police team, the woman was apprehended and the alleged narcotic substance was recovered during the search conducted in the presence of the duty magistrate.
Police officials said further investigation would be carried out in accordance with legal procedure.
The court proceedings will determine the next stage of custody and investigation. Police are expected to question the accused regarding the alleged source of the recovered substance and its intended distribution.

However, the earlier case remains subject to judicial proceedings, and allegations in that case have not been established merely by registration of the case.
The latest arrest highlights the continued focus of the Yamunanagar Police on tackling the circulation of narcotic substances through specialised teams such as the Anti-Narcotic Cell.
Drug trafficking cases require investigation into not only the person from whom a substance is allegedly recovered but also the broader chain through which narcotics may have been sourced and distributed.
