A religious and community programme was organised by the BJP Workshop Mandal on Thursday to honour the legacy and teachings of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, with 35 kalash containing sacred soil brought from his birthplace at Seer Govardhanpur, Kashi (Varanasi) being formally worshipped and distributed for installation at temples across the Jagadhri Workshop area.
The programme was held at the Hanuman Temple in Sarojini Colony, where the sacred soil was placed before religious rituals. A havan was also organised on the occasion, with public representatives and BJP office-bearers participating in the religious ceremony and offering ahutis.
Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora, Mayor Suman Bahmani, BJP Haryana state secretary Madan Chauhan and Yamunanagar Market Committee Chairman Rakesh Tyagi, along with other party representatives and local leaders, participated in the programme.
The 35 kalash containing the sacred soil were worshipped following the prescribed religious rituals. After the ceremony, the kalash were sent to different temples located along Jagadhri Workshop Road for installation.
The organisers said the initiative was being undertaken as a mark of respect for Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj and his teachings, with the sacred soil from his birthplace being taken to temples in different parts of the district.
Speaking during the programme, MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora said Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj gave society a powerful message of equality, brotherhood and humanity.
He said bringing sacred soil from the birthplace of the revered saint and installing it at temples was a matter of faith and devotion for those participating in the initiative.
Arora said the initiative could also help connect people with the teachings and ideals associated with Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj. He emphasised that the saint’s message of social equality and human dignity continues to hold relevance and can inspire society to work towards greater harmony.
The MLA said that remembering the lives and teachings of revered spiritual figures provides an opportunity for people to reflect on values such as compassion, equality and mutual respect.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the sacred soil brought from Seer Govardhanpur in Kashi was being installed at temples associated with all 16 BJP mandals in the district.
She explained that the sacred soil had been brought to Yamunanagar a few days earlier and was initially sent to the 16 mandals from the Sanatan Dharma Temple in Model Town.
The mandal-level process has subsequently been taken forward by distributing the soil-filled kalash to individual temples in the respective areas.
According to Bahmani, the initiative is intended to carry the message of devotion and social harmony to people at the local level. She said the campaign would provide an opportunity for residents to remember Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj and reflect upon his message of humanity.
The distribution of the kalash at the Sarojini Colony temple was conducted following religious rituals. The participants also joined the havan and offered ahutis.
The event brought together elected representatives, party office-bearers and local members in a religious setting. The organisers said the participation reflected the community’s interest in preserving and honouring the spiritual heritage associated with Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj.
Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj is widely remembered for his teachings emphasising human equality, social harmony and devotion. His message has historically been associated with challenging social discrimination and promoting dignity and mutual respect.
The organisers said that carrying sacred soil from his birthplace to temples was intended as a symbolic expression of reverence and a way of connecting local communities with the saint’s birthplace.
The 35 kalash distributed during the programme will be taken to different temples in the Jagadhri Workshop Road area, where they will be installed as part of the broader initiative.
The programme also highlighted the role of religious and cultural initiatives in bringing communities together. Speakers and organisers emphasised the importance of maintaining harmony and respecting the teachings of saints and spiritual leaders.
The organisers said that such initiatives should not remain limited to ceremonial activities but should also encourage people to understand and practise the values associated with the revered figures being remembered.
The message of social equality and humanity associated with Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj was repeatedly highlighted during the programme.
The event also included participation by local leaders and representatives who joined the religious proceedings and offered prayers.
Among those present were Ram Niwas Garg, Mandal President Shubham Rana, Councillor Vikram Rana, Sandeep Dhiman, Dixit Dhiman, Ruchi Sharma, Ankit Kapil, former Deputy Mayor Rani Kalra, Jagdish Babbar, Vibha Gupta, Uma Sharma, Pradeep Panchal, Ladi and Vipin Sahni, along with other members and supporters.
The organisers said the programme was part of a wider effort to take the sacred soil to temples across the district through the network of the 16 BJP mandals.
The initiative began with the arrival of the sacred soil from Seer Govardhanpur in Kashi and its subsequent distribution from the Sanatan Dharma Temple in Model Town. The mandal-level distribution is now being completed through programmes at individual temples.
The religious ceremony at Sarojini Colony was marked by prayers, havan and the formal worship of the kalash before they were sent onwards for installation.
Participants said the initiative provided an opportunity to express respect for Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj while strengthening awareness of his message among local residents.
The organisers also emphasised the values of brotherhood and social harmony, saying that the teachings of saints can serve as a source of inspiration for society even in contemporary times.
The programme concluded with the dispatch of the 35 sacred-soil kalash to various temples in the Jagadhri Workshop Road area.
The initiative is expected to continue with the installation of the kalash at the designated temples, completing the mandal-level effort to take the sacred soil from Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj’s birthplace to religious centres across the district.
