Yamunanagar Police have arrested two men allegedly involved in drug trafficking and recovered 45 grams of heroin (smack) from their possession during an interception near the Kalanour border. The action was carried out by the Anti Narcotic Cell under the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking.
According to the police spokesperson, the two suspects were travelling on a motorcycle after allegedly entering the district from Uttar Pradesh when they were intercepted by the police team. The recovered substance was identified as heroin, commonly referred to as smack.
The Anti Narcotic Cell team had reportedly received confidential information that two youths would enter the district through the Kalanour border on a motorcycle while allegedly carrying a consignment of narcotics from Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the information, the police constituted a special team and deployed personnel at the border to intercept the suspected vehicle.
The team was led by Sub-Inspector Om Prakash and included Assistant Sub-Inspector Karmveer, Jasveer Singh, Monu and Ashish. Police personnel established a blockade at the Kalanour border and began checking vehicles entering the district.
After some time, police reportedly noticed two young men approaching from the Uttar Pradesh side on a motorcycle. The team stopped the motorcycle and detained both riders for verification.
Police said the search was conducted in the presence of a duty magistrate. During the search, officers allegedly recovered 45 grams of heroin from the suspects.
The accused were subsequently identified as Rahul alias Kaka and Mahesh alias Messi, residents of Bank Colony. Police said the motorcycle being used during the alleged transportation of the narcotics belonged to Mahesh.
Following the recovery, both suspects were arrested and a case was registered against them under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The accused were produced before the court and taken on police remand for further questioning. Investigators are now attempting to establish the source of the recovered heroin, the intended destination of the alleged consignment and the identities of other persons who may be connected with the suspected drug supply network.
Anti Narcotic Cell In-charge Anil Kumar said the investigation would focus on determining where the accused allegedly obtained the narcotics and whom they intended to supply them to. The police are also examining whether the two suspects were operating independently or were connected with a larger network involved in the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs.
According to the police, both accused have previously been involved in several cases of a similar nature. Those cases are currently pending before the courts. Their previous alleged involvement has prompted investigators to examine their activities and possible connections with other persons associated with narcotics trafficking.
The police said the current arrest followed intelligence-based action and surveillance aimed at preventing the movement of narcotics into the district. Border areas are being closely monitored because of their potential use as transit routes for illegal substances.
The recovery of 45 grams of heroin has been described by police as a significant development in the investigation. Officers are now using the remand period to question the accused about the alleged supply chain and identify possible links between the source of the narcotics and their intended recipients.
Police are also expected to examine the communication and movement patterns of the accused as part of the investigation. Such verification could help investigators establish whether additional people were involved in arranging the alleged transportation of the narcotics.
The Anti Narcotic Cell has been conducting continued operations against drug suppliers in the district under the directions of the Superintendent of Police. The police have also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and immediately report information related to drug trafficking or suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. Investigators will also examine the previous cases registered against the accused and determine whether there are any links between those cases and the current alleged offence.
The police are particularly focusing on the route allegedly used by the suspects to enter the district and the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the recovered heroin.
