Teams inspect grain and vegetable market areas and interact with traders and residents as part of intensified anti-drug awareness and enforcement campaign

The Yamunanagar unit of the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) conducted an intensive search operation in drug-sensitive areas of Radaur city with the assistance of its trained narcotics detection dog ‘Dollar’, as part of the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs across Haryana.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Additional Director General of Police and HSNCB chief Sanjay Kumar, IPS, and under the guidance of senior bureau officials. The exercise combined targeted search activity with direct public outreach, with the team interacting with local traders, shopkeepers, commission agents and residents to strengthen awareness about the harmful consequences of drug abuse and the importance of reporting suspected drug-related activity.
HSNCB Yamunanagar Unit In-charge Mahroof Ali said the team specifically focused on locations in Radaur that have been identified as sensitive from the perspective of possible drug-related activity. Particular attention was given to the grain market and vegetable market areas, where public movement and commercial activity remain high.
During the search operation, trained narcotics detection dog ‘Dollar’ was deployed to assist the team in checking various locations. The search included shops, roadside stalls and storage areas in the targeted locations. The use of a trained detection dog enabled the team to conduct a systematic search of areas where narcotics could potentially be concealed.
Mahroof Ali said such operations are important not only for detecting concealed narcotic substances but also for creating a strong deterrent against individuals who may attempt to use crowded commercial or public places for illegal drug-related activities.
He said the bureau would continue to conduct similar search operations at regular intervals in drug-sensitive areas. The objective is to maintain sustained surveillance and ensure that locations vulnerable to drug-related activity do not become safe spaces for people involved in illegal narcotics trade.
The operation also included an awareness component. HSNCB personnel interacted with traders, shopkeepers, commission agents and members of the public present in the market areas. The team explained the social, health and family-related consequences associated with drug abuse and urged people to remain alert to suspicious activities.
Officials told members of the public that community participation is essential in the fight against drug trafficking. Residents and traders were encouraged to immediately inform the authorities if they notice suspicious persons, transactions or activities that may be connected with the sale, transportation or distribution of illegal narcotics.
The bureau stressed that people should not hesitate to share information about suspected drug activity. Timely information from local residents can help enforcement agencies identify vulnerable locations, trace suspected suppliers and take preventive action before illegal activities expand.
The interaction with traders and residents was also aimed at strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the local community. Market areas are visited by large numbers of people every day, making awareness among shopkeepers, workers, traders and other stakeholders particularly important.
Officials explained that drug abuse affects not only individuals who consume narcotics but also their families and the wider community. Addiction can contribute to financial difficulties, health problems, disruption of family life and other social challenges. Preventing the availability of illegal drugs therefore requires both enforcement action and sustained public awareness.
The HSNCB has been conducting anti-drug activities across the state with the objective of identifying drug trafficking networks, preventing the circulation of narcotic substances and encouraging citizens to play an active role in combating the menace.
