Members of the Savarna community organised a large protest march in Yamunanagar on October 4 against the proposed UGC Act, raising objections to the legislation and demanding that the government reconsider and withdraw it. The demonstration saw substantial participation and included a torch-light protest, with organisers describing the march as a democratic expression of the community’s concerns.

Large Protest March Draws Community Participation

The march began from the Workshop Railway Ground and passed through Valmiki Chowk, Bhagwan Parshuram Chowk and Maharana Pratap Chowk before reaching Bhagat Singh Chowk. A large number of members of the Savarna community participated in the procession and raised their objections to the proposed law.

During the protest, participants lit torches as a symbolic expression of their anger and urged the government to withdraw the UGC Act. Speakers said the community was serious about the issue and appealed to the government to respect public sentiment and reconsider the proposed legislation.

Organisers Call for Democratic and Peaceful Protest

Office-bearers and members of Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Sena Sangh Trust also took part in the demonstration under the leadership of its president, Kapil Pandit of Yamunanagar. Trust representatives said the community would continue to raise issues concerning its rights and interests through democratic and peaceful means.

The organisers said the purpose of the march was to convey the collective concerns of the community to the government. They appealed to members of the community to remain united and continue their campaign peacefully while seeking a response from the authorities.

Government Warned of Wider Movement

During the demonstration, speakers warned that the agitation could be expanded if the government failed to take a positive decision on their demand and did not withdraw the UGC Act. They also said the issue could be raised prominently during forthcoming elections and claimed that the government could face political consequences if the concerns remained unresolved.

The statements reflected the organisers’ position on the proposed legislation and their intention to keep the issue in the public domain. The protest remained focused on putting their demands before the government through a public demonstration.
