Kumari Selja Calls for Massive Participation in ‘Save Vote, Save the Nation’ Rally
Congress leader urges people from Haryana and across India to join the November 1 rally in Delhi; raises concerns over electoral fairness and Gurugram’s pollution-control preparedness.

Kumari Selja, Sirsa MP, former Union Cabinet minister, All India Congress Committee general secretary and member of the Congress Working Committee, has called upon people from Haryana and across the country to participate in the ‘Save Vote, Save the Nation’ rally scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1.
Selja said the rally would be an important public movement aimed at protecting democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ voting rights. She urged people to participate in large numbers, describing the protection of electoral rights as essential to the functioning of a democratic system.
Selja Raises Concerns Over Electoral Fairness
According to Selja, the Congress alleges that the BJP-led Central government is weakening the autonomy of democratic institutions and that serious questions have emerged over the fairness of the electoral process. She said allegations of vote theft should be investigated impartially.
Emphasising the importance of democratic accountability, Selja said the people were supreme in a democracy and no government should be permitted to use constitutional institutions for political interests. She urged citizens to raise their voices peacefully and through constitutional means to safeguard their democratic rights.

Congress Leaders Discuss Rally Preparations in Haryana
Selja said detailed discussions had taken place with Sanjay Dutt, Congress in-charge for Haryana, and Rao Narender Singh, president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, regarding preparations for the rally, organisational coordination and efforts to ensure broad participation from the state.
She said Congress leaders had called upon party workers to reach out to people in villages and towns and encourage them to take part in the programme. The emphasis, she said, was on coordination across the organisation and mobilising public participation from Haryana.
Selja expressed confidence that Haryana would register a strong presence at the rally, which is being organised under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
She said the Congress would continue its efforts to defend democratic values, constitutional rights and a fair electoral system. Selja urged citizens to remain aware of their rights and participate peacefully in democratic processes.
Box Story: Selja Says Newspaper Report Exposes Gaps in Gurugram’s Pollution Control
Reacting to a report published in a national newspaper, Kumari Selja alleged that Gurugram’s pollution-control preparedness had been exposed. The report stated that 10 of the city’s 24 road-dust cleaning machines were lying inactive, despite a maintenance contract worth ₹6 crore. It also reported that the city was already short of 48 machines against the prescribed target.
Selja, Sirsa MP and Congress national general secretary, said the report had raised serious questions about the BJP government’s preparations to control pollution.
She said Gurugram’s air becomes hazardous every winter, yet the government fails to take concrete steps in time. Criticising the government’s priorities, she said the Chief Minister was occupied with publicity while residents needed clean air rather than appearances.

Her remarks placed the reported condition of road-cleaning equipment at the centre of the debate over pollution management in Gurugram. The figures concerning inactive machines, the maintenance contract and the reported shortfall were cited from the newspaper report mentioned in the statement.
Democracy and Clean Air Remain Public Concerns
Selja’s statements covered two issues: the protection of voting rights and concerns about pollution-control measures in Gurugram. On the rally, she called for peaceful public participation and an impartial examination of allegations concerning the electoral process. On pollution, she cited a newspaper report to question the readiness of equipment intended to control road dust.
The Congress leader maintained that public institutions should serve citizens’ interests and that the government should take effective action on issues affecting people’s rights and daily lives.
The rally is scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Selja appealed to people from Haryana and other parts of the country to attend and support the campaign for protecting democratic and constitutional rights.
