The arrest of the alleged main accused marks an important stage in the investigation, but police said the case will continue to be examined in depth. Investigators will seek to establish the complete chain of events surrounding Irfan’s death.

The alleged confession mentioned by police will also form part of the investigative material, while other evidence, witness accounts and forensic findings will have to be assessed according to law.

The investigation will ultimately determine whether the financial dispute cited by police was the immediate trigger for the alleged killing and whether anyone else was connected with the incident.

EXPERT / CASE CONTEXT

Why is remand important after an arrest in a murder case? Police remand, where granted by the court, allows investigators to question an accused and pursue investigative leads that may help establish the sequence of events, recover relevant material and verify information connected with the alleged offence.

In the Jaidhar case, police have said that the proposed remand will be used to examine the alleged financial dispute, the circumstances of the killing and other aspects of the investigation. Remand itself does not establish guilt; the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
