A community-focused Angan Milan Seva Programme was organised at the Anganwadi Centre in Saraswati Colony under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, bringing together women, children and adolescent girls around the themes of nutrition, health and the dignity of daughters. The programme was organised as part of Poshan Maah, with emphasis on creating awareness about balanced diets, maternal health, early childhood development and equal opportunities for girls.

Nutrition Awareness Takes Centre Stage»

The programme was presided over by Suman Rani, Supervisor, Circle Bharat Sevak Nagar. During the event, participants were encouraged to understand the importance of nutrition not only during pregnancy but also during the early years of a child’s life and throughout adolescence.

Women were informed about the importance of taking a nutritious and balanced diet during pregnancy, undergoing regular health check-ups and paying attention to the nutritional needs of children. The programme also highlighted the role of proper nutrition in supporting children’s physical and mental development.

The organisers also used the occasion to promote awareness about locally available nutritious foods. Women were encouraged to include green vegetables, pulses, seasonal fruits, milk and other nutritious food items in their daily diets.

Traditional Ceremonies Add a Social Message»

Several activities were organised during the programme in keeping with the broader message of Poshan Maah. These included a baby shower ceremony for a pregnant woman, a traditional well-worship ceremony and plantation under the “Ek Ped Beti Ke Naam” initiative.

The activities were designed to connect health and nutrition awareness with community participation and the social importance of respecting daughters. Participants were encouraged to ensure that girls receive equal opportunities, care and respect within families and society.

The plantation activity further added an environmental dimension to the programme, linking the celebration of daughters with a positive community action. Such activities can also provide an opportunity for families and local communities to discuss health, nutrition, education and the importance of creating a supportive environment for children.

Balanced Diet Essential for Children’s Development»

Poonam Aggarwal, member of the Child Welfare Committee, said that a balanced diet is extremely important for the physical and mental development of children. She emphasised the need to create awareness about malnutrition and encourage families to make nutritious food a regular part of everyday life.

According to her, the purpose of Poshan Maah is not limited to awareness but also includes encouraging people to make better use of nutritious food available locally. Families can play an important role by ensuring that children receive a varied diet and by paying attention to their changing nutritional requirements as they grow.

Recognition for Anganwadi Worker»

The programme also recognised the contribution of frontline workers in taking nutrition and welfare messages to the community. Anganwadi worker Shweta Pundhir was honoured for her outstanding work.

The recognition was part of the community-oriented character of the programme, which brought together public representatives, child welfare stakeholders, Anganwadi workers and local women. Such participation also highlighted the role of Anganwadi centres as important points of community-level engagement around women and child welfare.

The event also conveyed a broader message that nutrition, healthcare and the equal dignity of daughters are interconnected aspects of family and community well-being. Awareness at the local level can help families make informed choices about food, maternal healthcare and the developmental needs of children.

Community Participation Strengthens the Message»

Ward No. 1 councillor Reena Rastogi, Ward No. 5 councillor Bhanu Pratap, Vishal Gupta and Sumit Sharma were among those present at the programme. Anganwadi workers and women from the locality also participated in the event.

The gathering provided a platform for discussing issues that directly affect families, particularly maternal nutrition, child development and the social well-being of girls. The combination of awareness activities, traditional ceremonies, plantation and recognition of frontline workers gave the programme a community-oriented character.

With nutrition remaining an important part of women and child welfare initiatives, programmes at the local level can help bring awareness messages closer to families. The Angan Milan Seva Programme at Saraswati Colony similarly sought to connect nutritional awareness with everyday family practices and a wider message of respect and equal opportunity for daughters.
