Yamunanagar Police Arrests Youth With 255 Grams of Heroin Valued at ₹55 Lakh
The district police have intensified their campaign against drug trafficking, with the Anti-Narcotics Cell arresting a youth and allegedly recovering 255 grams of heroin (smack) during a late-night operation in Vijay Colony. Police have estimated the value of the seized substance at approximately ₹55 lakh.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajat Gulia said the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, as district police teams continue targeted operations against people allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced before a court and taken on remand, with investigators seeking to determine where the alleged narcotic was sourced and where it was intended to be sold.
Police Act on Secret Information in Vijay Colony»
According to DSP Rajat Gulia, Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar received information that a youth was allegedly engaged in selling narcotic substances in Vijay Colony. Acting on the information, a police team was constituted to verify the input and initiate action.
The team comprised ASI Amit Kumar, Jasbir Singh, Karmveer, Kuldeep Saini, Ankit and Ashish. Police said the team reached the identified location and apprehended a youth who was moving around in the area.
A Duty Magistrate was called to the spot during the search proceedings. Police said that the search was conducted in the presence of the magistrate, during which 255 grams of heroin, also referred to as smack, was allegedly recovered from the youth.
Accused Identified as Vijay Colony Resident Birju»
The arrested youth was identified by police as Birju, son of Subodh, a resident of Vijay Colony. Following the alleged recovery, police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
The accused was subsequently produced before the court, where police obtained remand for further investigation. Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession of the narcotic substance and the possible source from which it was obtained.
Police said the investigation would also focus on determining where the accused was allegedly planning to sell the substance. The questioning during remand is expected to help investigators establish whether other persons were involved in the alleged supply or distribution chain.
₹55 Lakh Estimated Value of Seized Heroin»
According to Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar, the heroin allegedly recovered from the accused has been valued at around ₹55 lakh.
The police valuation represents an approximate estimate cited in connection with the seizure. The exact circumstances surrounding the alleged narcotic, including its source and intended distribution, remain part of the ongoing investigation.
The seizure of 255 grams has also prompted investigators to look beyond the immediate arrest. Police are examining whether the accused had links with other individuals involved in supplying or distributing narcotics in the area.
