District Town and Country Planning Department launches demolition drive with district administration support; illegal roads and DPC structures removed

The District Town and Country Planning Department, with the assistance of the district administration, has carried out a major demolition drive against an unauthorised colony being developed in the revenue estate of Mauja Shahpur, Tehsil Vyaspur, Yamunanagar district. The action was taken in the controlled area after the developers and landowners allegedly failed to comply with notices and departmental directions issued against the unauthorised development.
According to the information provided by the department, the illegal colony was spread across an area of approximately five acres. During the demolition operation, all kutcha roads and DPC structures developed as part of the unauthorised colony were demolished.
The action was carried out following the orders of Deputy Commissioner Priti. District Town Planner Rajesh Kumar, along with departmental staff, was present during the operation. Jagmeet Singh, Executive Engineer, Vyaspur, was appointed as the Duty Magistrate to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. The Station House Officer of the State Enforcement Bureau, Yamunanagar, also remained present at the site with the police team to ensure the smooth and peaceful execution of the operation.
Officials said that the district administration had made adequate arrangements to prevent any law and order situation during the demolition. The presence of the Duty Magistrate, enforcement officials and police personnel ensured that the action could be carried out in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
District Town Planner Rajesh Kumar stated that notices had earlier been issued to the violators under the relevant provisions of the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act, 1963, commonly referred to as the Controlled Area Act. However, the concerned persons did not comply with the departmental orders.
He said that the landowners and other persons involved in the development had allegedly started establishing the colony without obtaining the mandatory permission and approvals from the competent authorities. As a result, the department initiated demolition proceedings against the unauthorised development.
During the operation, the infrastructure created to establish and promote the illegal colony was targeted. The kutcha roads developed within the approximately five-acre area were demolished along with DPC structures constructed at the site.
The District Town Planner appealed to the public to remain cautious while purchasing land or plots and advised prospective buyers not to invest in unauthorised colonies. He said that people should verify the legal status and required approvals of any residential colony or plotted development before entering into a purchase or sale transaction.
The department warned that individuals who choose to purchase plots in unauthorised colonies despite the lack of statutory approvals may face difficulties in the future and would be responsible for their own decisions. Such developments may not have the necessary permissions, infrastructure approvals or other statutory clearances required for planned development.
Rajesh Kumar further stated that strict action against illegal colonies and unauthorised construction would continue in accordance with the law. Any person found developing an illegal colony or carrying out unauthorised construction without the required permissions could face action by the district administration and the Town and Country Planning Department.
The demolition drive is part of the administration’s continuing effort to curb unauthorised development in controlled areas and ensure that land development takes place in accordance with approved planning norms and legal procedures.
The department has urged residents and potential property buyers to exercise due caution before purchasing any plot. Citizens have been advised to verify whether the colony has been approved by the competent authority and whether the required permissions have been obtained before making any investment.
The District Town and Country Planning Department said enforcement action against illegal colonies and unauthorised constructions will continue wherever violations of planning regulations are found. The administration has reiterated that planned and authorised development is essential for ensuring proper civic infrastructure, roads and other public facilities in urban and semi-urban areas.
The action in Shahpur sends a clear message that the development of colonies without obtaining mandatory approvals will not be permitted. The district administration has appealed to landowners, developers and the general public to follow prescribed rules and avoid any involvement in illegal or unauthorised construction activities.
