The Society of Environment Management and Bio Research (SEMBR), in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Green Park Society, has launched a week-long Van Mahotsav and mass plantation campaign from July 30 to August 5 to promote environmental conservation and sustainable green development across Yamunanagar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K.R. Bhardwaj, Patron of SEMBR and a senior environmentalist, said the growing challenges of climate change, pollution and shrinking green cover have made tree plantation more important than ever.

He urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for nurturing it, stressing that protecting saplings is just as important as planting them.

“Tree plantation is the need of the hour. Every plant we nurture today is an investment in a healthier and greener future for the coming generations,” Dr. Bhardwaj said.

As part of the campaign, large-scale plantation drives were carried out at the Sector-17 Cremation Ground (HSVP), Jagadhri, and the area behind Vishwas Public School. Volunteers planted a variety of shade, medicinal, ornamental and fruit-bearing trees, including Neem, Peepal, Giloy, Jamun, Guava, Kaner and Croton.

Dr. Bhardwaj said the initiative aims to improve green cover, restore ecological balance and provide a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.

During the meeting, members discussed the campaign’s roadmap and resolved to transform the plantation drive into a mass public movement by encouraging greater community participation.

Among those present were SEMBR President Ashok Kakkar, Treasurer Sudesh Kumar Kamboj, Abhishek (JE), Brij Mohan Sharma, Pawan Kamboj, and several members of both organisations, who actively participated in the plantation drive.

Dr. Bhardwaj also appealed to educational institutions, social organisations, youth groups and local residents to join the campaign, saying, “Every tree planted today is a pledge to secure the future.”
