Career Awareness Programme Brings Industry Guidance to Students
A career awareness programme focusing on employment opportunities, required qualifications and career prospects in the banking and financial services sector was organised by the PDP and Placement Cell to help students understand the changing nature of the industry and prepare themselves for emerging professional opportunities.
Vikas Kumar, CEO of Infinite Career Consultant, Chandigarh; Dr C. Shekhar, Founder Director; and Mithilesh Kumar, Regional Head of Manipal Academy of BFSI, Bengaluru, were the key speakers. Acting Principal Dr Surinder Kaur, PDP and Placement Cell Convenor Mamta Thapar and Co-Convenor Sushma Sharma presided over the programme.
Banking Sector Expands Beyond Traditional Roles
Vikas Kumar explained that employment in the banking sector is no longer restricted to conventional banking positions. He highlighted opportunities in customer service, relationship management, sales, loan management, internal audit, business executive roles and senior customer service positions.
He encouraged students to look beyond traditional perceptions of banking employment and understand the changing requirements of employers across banking and related financial services.
Academic Qualification Alone Is Not Enough
Dr C. Shekhar told students that academic qualifications, while important, are not by themselves sufficient to build a successful career in banking and financial services. He emphasised communication skills, customer behaviour, digital competence, basic banking knowledge, teamwork and a positive attitude.
He advised students to keep learning new skills in response to changes taking place in the banking industry and to strengthen their employability alongside their academic preparation.
Recruitment, Training and Career Growth Explained
Mithilesh Kumar provided students with information about different positions available in banks and financial institutions, along with eligibility requirements, recruitment procedures, training opportunities and prospects for career development.
Students raised questions about securing employment in the banking sector, interview preparation, required skills and responsibilities associated with different positions. The experts responded with practical suggestions and guidance.

Interactive Session Focuses on Employability
The question-and-answer session gave students an opportunity to seek clarification directly from professionals associated with career consulting and BFSI education. The interaction helped connect classroom learning with practical aspects of recruitment and workplace expectations.
The speakers also encouraged students to maintain a continuous-learning approach. With banking and financial services changing through digital technology and evolving customer requirements, students were advised to remain updated and develop relevant professional skills.
Placement Team Supports Career-Oriented Initiative
The programme was organised with the support of college and placement team members. Dr Parmesh Kumar, Manika Sethi, Vanshika, Shikha, Neha, Sangeeta, Shivani, Manisha, Aarti and Sapna contributed to the successful conduct of the event.
The organisers said career-oriented programmes provide students with exposure to professional fields and help them understand the skills and preparation expected in the employment market.
Experts Encourage Continuous Skill Development
The discussions highlighted the importance of combining formal education with communication, digital and interpersonal abilities. Understanding the nature of different roles can help students prepare more effectively for recruitment examinations, interviews and workplace responsibilities.
