Environmentalist Dr K.R. Bhardwaj urges citizens to protect every sapling as SEMBR’s week-long green campaign advances in Jagadhri

The sixth day of the week-long Van Mahotsav and Jan-Jan Tree Plantation Campaign, jointly organised by the Society of Environment Management and Bio Research (SEMBR) and Swami Vivekananda Green Park Society, witnessed an enthusiastic plantation drive at Sector-17B, HSVP, Jagadhri, reinforcing the campaign’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Addressing participants, renowned environmentalist and SEMBR Patron Dr K.R. Bhardwaj said large-scale tree plantation has become an urgent necessity in the face of climate change, rising pollution levels and the rapid decline of green cover. He urged every citizen to plant at least one sapling and, more importantly, nurture it until it grows into a healthy tree.
“Planting a sapling is only the beginning. The real responsibility lies in protecting and nurturing it so that future generations inherit a cleaner, healthier and greener environment,” Dr Bhardwaj said.
The plantation drive was carried out in the parks and roadside green belts of Sector-17B, where volunteers planted a variety of native, medicinal, fruit-bearing and shade trees, including neem, jamun, peepal and guava. According to the organisers, these plantations will strengthen the area’s green cover, improve air quality, support biodiversity and contribute to a healthier urban ecosystem.
Participants also reviewed the progress of the week-long campaign and discussed strategies to increase community participation during the remaining days of the initiative. The organisers reiterated their commitment to transforming the campaign into a mass environmental movement involving citizens from all sections of society.
Among those present were SEMBR President Ashok Kakkar, Treasurer Sudesh Kumar Kamboj, Amar Singh, Sudesh Garg, Pawan Kamboj and several members of both organisations, who actively participated in the plantation drive.
In his concluding remarks, Dr Bhardwaj appealed to educational institutions, social organisations, youth groups and residents to actively support the campaign, stating that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that extends beyond government initiatives.
Reaffirming the campaign’s vision, the organisers called upon citizens to plant more trees and ensure their regular care, emphasising that every tree planted today will contribute to a greener, healthier and more sustainable future for Yamunanagar.
