Police Takes Cyber Safety Message to Schools and Public Places»

Yamunanagar district police has intensified its public awareness campaign against cybercrime, with special emphasis on educating students and citizens about the growing risks of online fraud. A police spokesperson said the campaign is being conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal with the objective of helping people recognise cyber threats and protect themselves from increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts.

As part of the ongoing initiative, Cyber Crime Police Station in-charge Ravinder Kumar visited Hindu Girls Senior Secondary School, Jagadhri, as well as Jagadhri Bus Stand, where students, passengers and members of the general public were briefed about precautions against cyber fraud. Awareness pamphlets containing important safety information were also distributed during the programme.

The police spokesperson said cybercrime has been increasing rapidly and fraudsters are continuously adopting new methods to deceive unsuspecting people. Fake calls, misleading messages, fraudulent online offers and attempts to obtain confidential financial information are among the methods through which victims can be targeted.

The district police is therefore taking its awareness campaign beyond police stations and government offices and reaching educational institutions, public places and crowded areas. The objective is to ensure that people understand basic cyber safety practices before they become victims of online fraud.

Students Advised to Protect Personal and Banking Information»

During the awareness programme at Hindu Girls Senior Secondary School, Ravinder Kumar explained different forms of online fraud and advised students to remain extremely cautious while using digital services. He stressed that confidential information should never be shared with unknown persons, even if the caller claims to represent a bank, government department, company or another trusted organisation.

Students were specifically advised not to share their bank account details, ATM or debit card information, OTPs, passwords or other personal information with strangers. Police officials also cautioned them against clicking suspicious links received through social media, messaging applications, emails or other online platforms.

The police team also highlighted the risks associated with fake job offers, lottery schemes, fraudulent investment proposals and online shopping scams. Citizens were advised to verify the authenticity of an offer before transferring money or providing any personal or financial information.

Police officials emphasised that cyber fraudsters often create a sense of urgency or fear to persuade victims to act without verification. Maintaining caution, refusing to share confidential information and independently checking suspicious claims can help prevent many such incidents.

Bus Stand Awareness Drive Reaches Passengers and General Public»

The police team also conducted an awareness session at Jagadhri Bus Stand, where passengers and other members of the public were informed about common cybercrime tactics and basic preventive measures. The programme was aimed at reaching people from different backgrounds and age groups who use digital banking, online shopping and other internet-based services in their daily lives.

Citizens were encouraged to remain alert while responding to unknown calls, messages and online requests. Police officials said people should not allow pressure, attractive offers or threats to influence their decisions when financial information or money is being demanded through digital channels.

Immediate Reporting Can Improve Chances of Recovering Money»

During the awareness programme, the public was informed that victims of online financial fraud should act immediately instead of waiting or trying to resolve the matter on their own. Police officials advised people to report cyber fraud without delay through the national cyber helpline number 1930 or by filing a complaint through the official cybercrime reporting system.

The police explained that timely reporting is important because immediate action can improve the possibility of tracing the transaction and taking steps towards recovery of the defrauded amount. Citizens were therefore urged not to lose valuable time after discovering an unauthorised transaction or falling victim to an online scam.

Police officials also advised people to preserve relevant details such as transaction records, phone numbers, messages and other available information when reporting a cybercrime. Such information can assist the authorities in examining the circumstances of the incident.

Police Urges Citizens to Become Cyber Safety Ambassadors»

Students and citizens participating in the awareness sessions also raised questions related to cyber safety and online fraud. Police officials responded to their queries in a simple and practical manner and explained how basic precautions can reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

The police appealed to citizens not only to remain alert themselves but also to share cyber safety information with their family members, friends and people in their neighbourhood. Officials said awareness at the community level is essential because cyber fraud can affect people across age groups and social backgrounds.

The district police said the awareness campaign will continue in the coming days and will cover more educational institutions, public places and other areas. The broader objective is to create a more informed and digitally cautious society in which people can identify suspicious online activity and take timely action against cybercrime.
