Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mahabir Prasad has directed officials to make the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme more transparent by displaying ward-wise and location-wise details of stray dogs being brought to the centre for sterilisation and vaccination.

According to the Municipal Corporation, 4,430 stray dogs from different parts of the city have so far been sterilised and vaccinated under the programme. The details of dogs handled through the programme will now be displayed at the ABC Centre in Chaneti village, showing the ward and location from which the animals were picked up and the number processed from each area.

Mahabir Prasad issued the directions during an inspection of the Animal Birth Control Centre at Chaneti. He reviewed the facilities available at the centre and took stock of arrangements for the care of dogs, sterilisation procedures, medical treatment and cleanliness.

Ward-Wise Information to Be Displayed

The Commissioner directed officials to prepare and display a clear list at the centre indicating the number of dogs picked up from each ward and specific location, along with details of their sterilisation and vaccination.

He also instructed officials to provide concerned municipal councillors with complete information about dogs picked up from their respective wards. The move is intended to give elected representatives access to area-specific information about the ABC programme and help them track the work being undertaken in their wards.

Focus on Treatment, Cleanliness and Animal Care

During the inspection, Mahabir Prasad also reviewed arrangements for the treatment and care of dogs kept at the centre. He instructed the staff to ensure that there was no negligence in the treatment or handling of the animals.

Particular attention, he said, should be given to cleanliness and medical facilities at the centre. The Commissioner stressed that the Animal Birth Control programme is an important measure for managing the stray dog population in the city and directed officials to ensure that sterilisation and vaccination work continues smoothly and in accordance with prescribed standards.

Dogs Taken from Different Areas for Sterilisation

The Animal Birth Control Centre has been established by the Municipal Corporation for carrying out the programme. According to the civic body, dogs are picked up from different areas and brought to the centre for sterilisation and vaccination under the supervision of animal welfare organisations and NGOs.

After the procedures are completed, the dogs are kept at a dog shelter where they receive necessary treatment and care. The Municipal Corporation said the system is being implemented with the objective of managing the stray dog population while ensuring proper care of the animals during the process.

The location-wise reporting system is expected to provide a clearer picture of the programme’s reach across different wards. It will also allow councillors to know how many dogs have been picked up from specific locations in their respective areas.

Operational Arrangements Also Reviewed

The inspection covered both the operational and animal-care aspects of the facility. The Commissioner reiterated that cleanliness, medical arrangements and proper care should remain priorities at the centre alongside the sterilisation and vaccination process.

Chief Sanitation Inspectors Harjit Singh, Vinod Beneval and Amit Kamboj accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.

With 4,430 dogs already covered under the programme, the Municipal Corporation is continuing its efforts to manage the stray dog population through sterilisation and vaccination while strengthening monitoring and information-sharing at the ward level.
