Yamunanagar heroin seizure: Anti-Narcotics Cell arrests suspect with 264 grams of alleged contraband

Yamunanagar police say the Anti-Burglary Staff-cum-Anti-Narcotics Cell-2 arrested a resident of Gulab Nagar Camp with 264 grams of heroin during an operation based on a confidential tip. Police have valued the seized substance at about Rs 10 lakh. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the accused was produced before a court and taken on remand.
Police act on confidential information
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajat Gulia said the operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goel as part of continuing action against suspected drug trafficking in the district. According to police, the team headed by in-charge Raman Chandel received information that a young man was moving around Gulab Nagar Camp allegedly carrying narcotics for sale.
Based on the information, a team comprising Sub-Inspector Gurdial Singh, Satish Kumar, Sukhwinder Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Navtej, Gaurav, Aman and Kuldeep was constituted. Police said the team reached the area and detained the man who was allegedly moving around with the suspected substance.
264 grams of heroin allegedly recovered
Police said a duty magistrate, ETO Kanhaiya Kaushal, was called to the spot and the search of the detained man was conducted in his presence. During the search, officials allegedly recovered 264 grams of heroin, also referred to by police as smack.
The accused was identified as Arjun alias Khujli, son of Munnalal, a resident of Gulab Nagar. Police said the estimated value of the recovered substance is around Rs 10 lakh. The case has been registered under the NDPS Act.
Remand to be used to trace alleged supply chain
According to DSP Rajat Gulia, investigators will question the accused during remand to establish where the alleged contraband was sourced and where it was intended to be sold. Police said further action would be taken against any other persons found involved, subject to the outcome of the investigation.
Police cite previous drug cases
The Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge said the accused had previously faced around three cases related to alleged drug trafficking and that those matters are pending before the court. Police said he had been out on bail when he was arrested in the present case.
Police also said the accused’s property and financial assets would be examined. If investigators establish that any property was acquired through proceeds allegedly generated from narcotics activity, action would be taken under applicable law.
