6,000 Alprazolam tablets seized near Jagadhri as Anti-Narcotics Cell arrests two suspects in alleged supply case

Yamunanagar police have arrested two men and seized 6,000 Alprazolam tablets in an alleged illegal supply case near Chuna Bhatti in Jagadhri, DSP Rajat Gulia said while briefing journalists. The action was carried out by the district Anti-Narcotics Cell under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goel.

Police Set Up Checkpoint After Intelligence Input
According to DSP Rajat Gulia, Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Kumar received information that a young man would arrive in Yamunanagar on a motorcycle carrying prohibited intoxicating medicines. A team comprising Sub-Inspector Ashish Kumar, ASI Rajinder Singh, Head Constables Pankaj, Amit, Ravi, Sonu and Manjeet was subsequently formed.
The team established a checkpoint at Chuna Bhatti, Jagadhri, and began checking vehicles. Police said a motorcycle rider approaching from the Chhachhrauli side attempted to flee after noticing the team, but officers chased and detained him.
6,000 Tablets Recovered During Search
Police said a duty magistrate, ETO Virender Kumar, was called to the spot and the detained man’s search was conducted in his presence. Prohibited medicines were allegedly recovered during the search. Police then sought an assessment from Drug Controller Dr Bindu Sharma, following which the seized medicines were identified as 6,000 Alprazolam tablets, according to the police account.
The accused was identified as Ashu Gupta, a resident of Azad Nagar and son of Neeraj Gupta. Police said he could not produce documents authorising the possession or transportation of the medicines. An NDPS Act case was subsequently registered against him and he was produced before a court.
Police Arrest Alleged Supplier
During questioning, police said Ashu Gupta told investigators that he had obtained the prohibited medicines from Shailender, a resident of Rampur Khadar. Acting on the information, the Anti-Narcotics Cell team arrested Shailender as well.
Police further said Shailender had been operating a hospital at Nathhanpur bus stand and that the premises would also be examined as part of the investigation. The authorities are checking whether the facility was operating lawfully and whether it was connected to the alleged supply of prohibited medicines.
What Happens Next
Both accused have been produced before the court and taken on remand, police said. Investigators are now working to establish the source from which the medicines were obtained, the intended destination and whether other persons were involved in the alleged supply network.
