Red Cross Society to conduct four-day ALIMCO assessment drive for persons with disabilities and economically weaker senior citizens; eligible beneficiaries to be registered for artificial limbs, wheelchairs, hearing aids and other assistive devices

Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner and President of the District Red Cross Society, Preeti, the District Red Cross Society, Yamunanagar, will organise a series of free assessment and registration camps from September 7 to September 10 for persons with disabilities and eligible senior citizens who require artificial limbs and other assistive devices. The camps will be organised with the support of ALIMCO to identify eligible beneficiaries, assess their individual requirements and facilitate the distribution of appropriate assistive devices in the near future. The information regarding the camps was shared by Sanjeev Dhiman, Acting Secretary of the District Red Cross Society, Yamunanagar, who appealed to eligible persons with disabilities and economically weaker senior citizens aged 60 years and above to attend the camps at their designated locations with the required documents.
According to Sanjeev Dhiman, the first camp will be organised on September 7 at the Community Hall, Chhachhrauli, for beneficiaries from the Chhachhrauli and Pratap Nagar blocks. The second camp will be held on September 8 at the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Vyaspur, covering beneficiaries from the Vyaspur and Sadhaura blocks. On September 9, a similar camp will be organised at the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Saraswati Nagar, for eligible residents of the Saraswati Nagar and Radaur blocks. The final camp in the series will be held on September 10 at Panchayat Bhawan, Yamunanagar, for beneficiaries from the Jagadhri area and the Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation jurisdiction.
The camps will provide free assessment facilities to persons with disabilities and senior citizens. Medical and technical teams will examine eligible individuals, take necessary measurements and register beneficiaries according to their specific requirements. Those found eligible will subsequently be provided assistive devices through ALIMCO based on their assessed needs. The initiative is aimed at improving mobility, communication and overall quality of life for individuals who require support because of disability, age-related limitations or other physical challenges.
For eligible persons with disabilities, the proposed range of assistive devices includes motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, manual tricycles, hearing aids, crutches and artificial limbs, among other equipment depending on individual assessment. The camps will allow officials and technical experts to determine which device is most suitable for each beneficiary before the equipment is arranged and distributed.
Eligible senior citizens will also be covered under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. Depending on their assessed requirements, they may be registered for assistive devices such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, waist and knee belts, silicone foam cushions, walking sticks and other mobility-support equipment. The programme is intended to support elderly persons from economically weaker backgrounds who face difficulties in mobility, hearing or other age-related physical challenges.
Sanjeev Dhiman said that all persons with disabilities attending the camps must bring the required documents, including a recent photograph, disability certificate or UDID card, proof showing 40 per cent or more disability, Aadhaar card and income certificate. Beneficiaries should also carry relevant family and income documents as required for eligibility verification. For persons with disabilities whose family income is below Rs 22,500 per month, the Family ID should also be brought. If the Family ID is not available, the required income-related documentation should be properly certified by the authorised authority as specified for the scheme.
Senior citizens seeking benefits under the Vayoshri scheme must bring their photograph, Aadhaar card and income-related documents. The scheme is intended for eligible elderly persons with a monthly income of less than Rs 15,000. Applicants may be required to provide their Family ID, while those who do not have a Family ID should bring relevant proof, including a copy of their old-age pension bank record and the necessary certified income documentation as applicable.
The District Red Cross Society has advised beneficiaries to carry photocopies of all required documents to avoid delays during registration and verification. Persons attending the camps have also been advised to bring an attendant with them for their convenience, particularly elderly persons and individuals with mobility-related disabilities. Officials said proper documentation is essential to ensure that the assessment and registration process can be completed smoothly and that eligible beneficiaries can be considered for the required equipment without unnecessary delay.
The Red Cross Society has also clarified certain eligibility conditions regarding beneficiaries who have previously received similar assistive devices. Persons with disabilities who received a motorised tricycle within the last five years will not be eligible to receive another motorised tricycle under this programme. Similarly, persons with disabilities and senior citizens who have received assistive devices within the previous three years will not be eligible for the same category of assistance at these camps.
The four-day assessment drive is expected to provide an important opportunity for economically weaker persons with disabilities and senior citizens across different parts of Yamunanagar district to access government-supported assistive devices. Such equipment can play a significant role in improving independence and mobility, particularly for people who may otherwise find it difficult to afford wheelchairs, artificial limbs, hearing aids or other specialised support devices.
Acting Secretary Sanjeev Dhiman appealed to all eligible beneficiaries from the concerned blocks and urban areas to attend the camps on the scheduled dates and make full use of the facility. He also urged residents to spread information about the camps among people in their neighbourhoods who may be eligible but unaware of the initiative. The District Red Cross Society has emphasised that the assessment process will help identify the actual requirements of each beneficiary so that appropriate devices can be arranged according to individual needs.
The initiative, being organised under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Preeti, reflects the continuing efforts of the District Red Cross Society to extend support to vulnerable sections of society. By bringing the assessment camps to different locations across the district, the authorities aim to make the registration process more accessible for persons with disabilities and elderly citizens who may face difficulties in travelling long distances.
Eligible beneficiaries have been requested to reach their designated camp locations on the relevant date, carry all necessary documents and ensure that their applications are properly verified. The District Red Cross Society has appealed for maximum participation so that deserving persons with disabilities and senior citizens can benefit from the assessment and registration process and receive appropriate assistive support in the future.
