Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, the Yamunanagar district police are continuing strict action against drug trafficking and the illegal sale of narcotic substances. In a major action, the Anti-Narcotic Cell arrested a youth near Kapal Mochan and recovered 250 grams of opium from his possession.
According to the police spokesperson, a case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced before the court and taken on police remand for further questioning.
Anti-Narcotic Cell in-charge Anil Kumar said that his team received secret information that a youth riding an Activa was allegedly moving around near Kapal Mochan with the intention of selling narcotic substances. Acting promptly on the information, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Naveen, ASI Rajendra Singh, Vimal and Sultan was constituted.
The team reached the indicated location and started checking the area. During the operation, the police intercepted the youth riding an Activa and took him into custody. A Duty Magistrate was called to the spot, in whose presence the search of the accused was conducted.
During the search, police recovered 250 grams of opium from his possession. The accused was identified as Prince, son of Surajbhan, a resident of Kotda Khas village.
Following the recovery, a case was registered against him under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Police subsequently produced the accused before the court, from where he was taken on remand.
Anti-Narcotic Cell in-charge Anil Kumar said that the accused would be questioned during the remand period to establish the source of the recovered narcotic substance and determine where he allegedly intended to sell it. Police are also expected to investigate whether the accused has links with other individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
The district police said that action against drug traffickers is being carried out continuously under the supervision and guidance of SP Kamaldeep Goyal. Police teams are maintaining surveillance over suspected drug trafficking activities and taking legal action based on credible information.
The recovery of 250 grams of opium and the subsequent arrest underline the continued efforts of the Anti-Narcotic Cell to check the supply and illegal sale of narcotic substances in the district. Police officials have also appealed to members of the public to share information about drug trafficking and suspected narcotics-related activities with the police so that timely action can be taken.
