Police say accused were intercepted while allegedly travelling towards Uttar Pradesh on a stolen Activa

The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell of Yamunanagar police has arrested two men in connection with vehicle theft cases and recovered one stolen Activa scooter and two motorcycles from their possession, police said. The accused were produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody.
According to a police spokesperson, the arrests were made while the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell was working under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. Police said one of the arrested accused had also been booked in an earlier case, which is currently pending before the court.
Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar said the team received confidential information that two young men were travelling through the Kareda Highway on a stolen Activa and were planning to cross into Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on the information, a police team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil, Ravindra, Sandeep and Naresh was constituted. The team reached the location and established a checkpoint to check vehicles travelling along the route.
Police said that after some time, two men were spotted approaching on an Activa. On seeing the police team, they allegedly attempted to flee. The officers pursued them and managed to apprehend both suspects a short distance from the checkpoint.
During questioning, the suspects were identified as Durgesh alias Munshi, son of Surender Kumar, a resident of Patak Majra in Radaur, and Ankit, son of Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Radaur.
Police said questioning of the two accused subsequently led to the disclosure of three vehicle theft cases. The Activa recovered from the accused was allegedly stolen around eight days earlier from the Chhoti Line area under City Yamunanagar police station.
The police further said that another vehicle, a motorcycle, had allegedly been stolen approximately five days earlier from Bhagat Singh Chowk, also falling under the jurisdiction of City Yamunanagar police station.
A third motorcycle was also recovered from the accused. Police said further questioning was being conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the theft of the motorcycle and determine whether it was connected with another registered case.
According to the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell, the two accused had allegedly been involved in stealing a total of three two-wheelers. The recovery of the vehicles is expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances and locations of the reported thefts.
Police said the investigation was continuing to ascertain whether the accused were involved in any other vehicle theft incidents in Yamunanagar or surrounding areas.
The police spokesperson said the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell had been working to identify and apprehend persons involved in vehicle theft and recover stolen vehicles. The latest arrests followed specific information received by the team, after which officers mounted surveillance and intercepted the suspects.
The recovery of the Activa and two motorcycles has also provided investigators with material evidence in the cases being examined. Police are now verifying the ownership and theft records of the recovered vehicles and matching them with complaints registered at different police stations.
The role of both accused is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Police are also questioning them about the third motorcycle recovered during the operation and attempting to establish when and from where it was allegedly stolen.
In-charge Rajesh Kumar said the police team acted promptly after receiving the information and succeeded in apprehending both suspects before they could allegedly leave the area and enter Uttar Pradesh.
Police said the arrest and recovery operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb vehicle theft and trace stolen vehicles in the district. The department has also urged vehicle owners to remain cautious and take appropriate security measures to prevent theft.
The police spokesperson reiterated that investigations into vehicle theft cases remain a priority and that teams are working to identify repeat offenders and recover stolen vehicles.
Durgesh, who has previously been booked in another case, is facing proceedings in that matter before the court, police said. His previous case is currently pending judicial consideration.
Following their arrest in the present matter, both accused were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the three vehicle theft cases would continue in accordance with the law.
The latest action by the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell comes amid continued efforts by Yamunanagar police to strengthen action against vehicle theft and dismantle networks involved in stealing and moving two-wheelers across district and state boundaries.
Police said the investigation would also focus on establishing whether the recovered vehicles were intended to be transported outside Haryana and whether the accused had any associates involved in the alleged thefts or disposal of stolen vehicles.
The authorities said further details could emerge as the investigation progresses.
