56-year-old Pushpa Rani was alone at home when the fatal attack took place; police suspect she was hit on the head with a heavy object

A 56-year-old woman was allegedly murdered inside her home in Shiv Nagar Khadda Colony late Thursday night, triggering panic in the locality. The woman, identified as Pushpa Rani, was found lying in a pool of blood after her son returned home from work. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to preliminary information, the woman appears to have suffered a serious injury to her head, allegedly caused by a heavy object. The exact circumstances of the attack, however, are yet to be established. Police officials said that the motive behind the murder is also not clear at this stage.
The deceased was living with her younger son Deepak. Her husband had died several years ago. Her elder son, Pawan, lives in a nearby house with his wife and children.
Police said Deepak works for a private company. On Thursday night, he returned home from his duty at around 8 pm. When he reached the house, he noticed that the main door was open. He entered the house and went inside to look for his mother.
Deepak reportedly found Pushpa Rani lying inside a room in a blood-soaked condition. He tried to wake her and check her condition, but she did not respond.
During the same time, his sister Pooja called him on the phone. When he answered the call, Deepak reportedly informed her while crying that their mother had been killed.
The incident soon came to the attention of neighbours. Hearing the commotion, local residents reached the house and informed the police.
Following the information, police teams rushed to the spot. Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal and DSP Rajat Gulia also reached the scene and took stock of the situation. Teams from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) were also involved in the initial investigation.
A forensic team examined the scene and collected evidence considered relevant to the investigation. Police secured the house and began examining the circumstances in which the woman was attacked.
The body was subsequently shifted to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police officials said that the post-mortem report would be important in establishing the precise cause of death and the nature of the injuries suffered by the woman.
Possibility of robbery being examined:
During the preliminary investigation, police have also been examining the possibility that the murder could be linked to a robbery attempt. However, officials have not yet confirmed this possibility and the actual motive remains under investigation.
Family members have reportedly told police that they were not aware of any personal enmity involving Pushpa Rani. Police are therefore examining different aspects of the case rather than drawing any immediate conclusion regarding the motive.
Investigators are also attempting to determine whether the woman knew the person who entered the house and whether the accused had any prior knowledge about her routine or the family’s movements.
The fact that Pushpa Rani was reportedly alone at the time of the incident is also being examined as part of the investigation.
Police examine evidence from crime scene:
ASI Surjit Singh said that, prima facie, the woman appeared to have died after suffering a blow to the head. However, he clarified that the exact cause of death would be established after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
Police have begun recording statements of family members and other persons who may have information relevant to the case.
Investigators are also examining the sequence of events between the time Deepak left for work and his return home. The condition of the house, the position of the victim and other physical evidence collected from the scene are expected to help investigators reconstruct the incident.
Police are also working to identify the person responsible for the attack and determine how the accused entered and left the premises.
The presence of CIA teams and forensic personnel indicates that investigators are examining the case from multiple angles. Police are expected to scrutinise available evidence and information from the locality to establish the identity of the accused.
Family awaits answers:
The murder has left the family in shock. Pushpa Rani’s younger son discovered her body after returning from work, while her elder son lives nearby. The family is now awaiting clarity regarding the circumstances that led to her death.
The incident has also caused concern among residents of Shiv Nagar Khadda Colony, particularly because the woman was reportedly attacked inside her own home.
Police officials have appealed for cooperation from residents and are examining information that could help establish the sequence of events.
At present, investigators are focusing on identifying the accused, determining the motive and establishing whether robbery or any other reason was behind the attack.
Police said that further developments in the case will become clear as the investigation progresses and forensic and post-mortem findings are received.
