Vishva Ayurveda Parishad, Haryana, Yamunanagar district unit, celebrated Charak Jayanti with traditional enthusiasm and fervour, highlighting the invaluable contribution of Acharya Charak to Ayurveda, healthcare and the principles of healthy living.
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr Rishiraj Vashisth, Patron Officer of Vishva Ayurveda Parishad and former Chairman of the Haryana Medical Council. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vashisth elaborated on the significant contribution of Acharya Charak to the field of health and medicine.
Dr Vashisth said that Acharya Charak’s contribution was not limited merely to the treatment of diseases. His teachings also placed considerable emphasis on maintaining good health and adopting a disciplined lifestyle. According to him, the principles outlined by Acharya Charak continue to hold relevance in contemporary times, particularly as people increasingly seek healthier lifestyles and preventive approaches to wellbeing.
He explained that Ayurveda has traditionally emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between the body, mind and lifestyle. Acharya Charak’s teachings provided valuable guidance not only for physicians but also for individuals seeking to maintain health through appropriate food habits, daily routines and disciplined living.
The programme also highlighted the wider role of Ayurveda in promoting preventive healthcare. The participants recalled the contribution of the ancient Ayurvedic scholars and emphasised the need to preserve, promote and communicate the traditional knowledge associated with Ayurveda among younger generations.
Dr Pushkar Dutt, Provincial General Secretary of Vishva Ayurveda Parishad, was also present at the programme. He said that the Parishad is organising Charak Jayanti celebrations at various locations across Haryana as part of its efforts to spread awareness about Ayurveda and honour the great scholars and practitioners who contributed to its development.
Dr Dutt said that similar programmes are being organised at several places, including Gurugram, Charkhi Dadri, MSM Women Ayurvedic College at Khanpur Kalan, Karnal and Faridabad. He said that the celebrations are intended to provide people with an opportunity to learn about the contribution of Acharya Charak and the relevance of Ayurvedic principles in present-day life.
He further said that Vishva Ayurveda Parishad has been observing the birth anniversaries of great Ayurvedic Acharyas and scholars associated with the Vedic and Ayurvedic tradition. Alongside such commemorative programmes, the organisation is also working towards the development, promotion and wider dissemination of Ayurveda.
The speakers emphasised that Ayurveda represents a comprehensive approach to health, with emphasis on prevention, healthy living and maintaining harmony with nature. They said that the knowledge developed by ancient Ayurvedic scholars remains an important part of India’s traditional medical heritage and deserves to be understood and promoted through appropriate platforms.
The celebration of Charak Jayanti also provided an opportunity to remember Acharya Charak’s contribution to the systematic development of Ayurvedic medical knowledge. Participants said that his work continues to inspire practitioners and students of Ayurveda and serves as an important link between India’s ancient healthcare traditions and contemporary efforts towards holistic wellbeing.
The organisers stressed that awareness about Ayurveda should extend beyond the treatment of illness. Greater public understanding of healthy routines, appropriate lifestyle practices and preventive healthcare can contribute to a healthier society.
The programme was attended by Suraj, Kamal, Ajay, Mangal, Manoj, Amit and other members and well-wishers of Vishva Ayurveda Parishad. The participants paid tribute to Acharya Charak and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Ayurveda and creating greater awareness about its traditional principles.
The event concluded with an emphasis on carrying forward the legacy of Acharya Charak and strengthening efforts for the promotion and preservation of Ayurveda.
