Students express gratitude through gifts, classroom celebrations and cultural performances as school highlights the enduring role of teachers in shaping young lives

DAV Police Public School, Jagadhri, celebrated Teachers’ Day with warmth, enthusiasm and a strong message on the invaluable role of teachers in shaping the character, knowledge and future of students. The occasion brought together students and teachers in a series of activities aimed at expressing gratitude and acknowledging the contribution of educators in the lives of young people.
The celebration was rooted in the traditional Indian belief that a teacher holds a position of profound respect in society. The well-known Sanskrit verse describing the teacher as embodying the virtues of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh was recalled to underline the importance of the guru in imparting knowledge and guiding individuals towards a meaningful and purposeful life. The message of the verse was reflected in the manner in which students expressed their affection and respect for their teachers throughout the day.
Students presented gifts to their teachers as a gesture of appreciation and gratitude. The simple act of presenting gifts became an emotional expression of the bond shared between teachers and students. For the students, the occasion provided an opportunity to acknowledge not only the academic guidance they receive in classrooms but also the values, discipline and life lessons imparted by their teachers.
The celebrations also extended to individual classrooms, where students organised small parties for their teachers. Speaking on the occasion, school principal Anup Kumar Chopra extended warm Teachers’ Day greetings to all teachers and students. He emphasised that the importance of education and guidance received from teachers cannot be adequately expressed in words.
Chopra said that teachers perform the significant task of leading students out of the darkness of ignorance and towards the light of knowledge. According to him, education does much more than prepare students for examinations or careers; it helps shape their personalities and enables them to develop the confidence, values and understanding required to face different challenges in life.
He stressed that the lessons imparted by teachers continue to guide students long after they leave the classroom. The principles, discipline and knowledge acquired during school years often become the foundation on which individuals build their professional and personal lives. Teachers, therefore, contribute not only to academic development but also to the formation of responsible and capable citizens.
The principal also urged students to understand that respecting teachers should not remain limited to Teachers’ Day. He said students should not only express gratitude towards their educators but also make sincere efforts to follow the positive guidance they receive from them. According to him, the true respect for a teacher lies in applying the values and lessons learnt in everyday life.
He further emphasised that students should remain grateful to their teachers throughout their lives because educators play a vital role in giving young people the right direction at an important stage of their development. A teacher’s influence, he noted, can extend far beyond the boundaries of a classroom and remain with a student for years.
