Do Not Share Banking Details on Unknown Calls: SP Kamaldeep Goyal

Police urge citizens to protect OTPs, CVVs and UPI PINs and report cyber fraud immediately on helpline 1930

Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal has urged residents to remain alert against cybercrime and online fraud, warning them not to share confidential banking information in response to unknown calls, messages, emails or social media links. Police said awareness and caution remain key safeguards against digital scams.

Keep OTPs, CVVs and UPI PINs Confidential

As online shopping, digital banking and UPI payments become more common, cybercriminals are using increasingly deceptive methods to target people. During the festive season, fake discounts, prize offers and lottery messages may be used to lure users into clicking suspicious links and disclosing personal or financial details.

Citizens should never share bank account details, ATM information, CVV numbers, one-time passwords, UPI PINs or passwords. Police cautioned that legitimate banks and authorised institutions do not ask customers to disclose such confidential information over the phone.

Use Trusted Websites and Applications

Residents have been advised to shop only through trusted websites and applications and to be wary of unfamiliar platforms offering unusually large discounts. Links sent by unknown people should not be opened without checking their authenticity.

Report Cyber Fraud Immediately on 1930

SP Goyal said prompt reporting can improve the chances of preventing further financial loss. Anyone affected by cyber fraud should call the national cyber helpline at 1930 and can also submit a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

He also urged young people to help family members, senior citizens and others in their communities understand basic cyber-safety practices.
