Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation Organises ‘Swachh Diwali’ Drawing Competition at Government School
Students of Government High School, Govindpuri, Showcase Artistic Talent and Spread the Message of Cleanliness, Environmental Protection and Green Diwali
The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation organised a drawing and painting competition under the Swachh Bharat Mission with the theme “Swachh Diwali” at Government High School, Govindpuri, in Ward 22. The activity brought students together to express, through art, the importance of cleanliness, environmental protection and celebrating Diwali in a green and responsible manner.
The competition was conducted in accordance with the directions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Students participated enthusiastically and used their creativity to convey messages about keeping their surroundings clean and protecting the environment during the festive season.
Students Give Creative Expression to Cleanliness
The drawings and paintings reflected the students’ understanding of a clean, safe and environmentally conscious Diwali. Their artwork highlighted the need to avoid plastic, reduce pollution, protect nature and maintain cleanliness in public places as well as around their homes.
Through colours and creative illustrations, the students shared the message that festivals can be celebrated with joy while also taking care of the environment. The activity encouraged them to think about the impact of everyday choices and the role each person can play in keeping the city clean.
Swachh Bharat Mission Urban specialists Akash Kumar and Gagan Beniwal interacted with the students and encouraged them to celebrate Diwali in a clean, safe and eco-friendly way. They urged the children to avoid plastic and practices that contribute to pollution, and to make cleanliness an important part of their festive celebrations.

Clean Habits Begin in Childhood
Akash Kumar said such activities help children understand that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. He encouraged students to take the message beyond the school and discuss it with their families, motivating people at home to adopt cleaner habits and celebrate responsibly.
The initiative aimed to develop a sense of responsibility among children from an early age and inspire a positive attitude towards the environment. By linking creativity with a public message, the competition provided students an opportunity to become active participants in promoting cleanliness rather than limiting the message to classroom learning.
The students’ participation also demonstrated how schools can help spread awareness about civic responsibility. The message of the activity was that small actions—such as avoiding plastic, keeping surroundings tidy and preventing pollution—can collectively contribute to a cleaner community.
