Beneficiaries undergo assessment during the free assistive-device camp organised by the District Red Cross Society and ALIMCO at Saraswati Nagar.
More than 120 beneficiaries attend camp; 23 persons found eligible for artificial limbs and other assistive equipment

The District Red Cross Society, Yamunanagar, in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Government of India, organised its third free assessment camp at the Block Development and Panchayat Officer’s office in Saraswati Nagar to facilitate artificial limbs and other assistive devices for persons with disabilities and elderly beneficiaries under the relevant welfare scheme.
The camp was organised as part of a series of free assessment camps being conducted across different blocks of the district to identify eligible persons requiring artificial limbs, mobility aids and other assistive equipment. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that persons with disabilities and senior citizens who meet the eligibility criteria receive appropriate support through the government-supported programme.
Red Cross Society Acting Secretary Sanjeev Dhiman said the camps were being organised under the guidance of Society president and Deputy Commissioner Preeti to identify eligible persons from different blocks and facilitate the provision of artificial limbs and other assistive devices.
More than 120 beneficiaries attended the assessment camp at Saraswati Nagar. During the assessment and verification process, officials found that a majority of those who attended had already received assistive devices earlier. In some cases, beneficiaries were found to have discrepancies or outdated information in their Family ID and disability certificates.
The beneficiaries concerned were guided at the camp itself regarding the need to update their documents so that they could avail themselves of eligible government assistance without facing difficulties in the future.
Officials said the Red Cross Society had also facilitated the distribution of assistive devices in the previous year in collaboration with ALIMCO. As a result, the latest assessment was carried out with particular attention to identifying persons who had not previously received the required equipment or who were otherwise eligible under the programme.
Following the assessment, 23 beneficiaries were found eligible for assistive devices. The eligible beneficiaries will be provided the required equipment by ALIMCO in the near future, according to the Red Cross Society.
The assessment team included professionals associated with the ALIMCO agency of the Government of India. Madhukar, Audiologist; Amandeep Sharma; P&O specialist Subhash Chandra; and members of the clerical team examined beneficiaries and assessed their requirements.
The assessment process included verification of documents and evaluation of the needs of persons with disabilities and elderly beneficiaries. The exercise is intended to ensure that assistive equipment is provided according to the actual requirements of eligible beneficiaries.
Red Cross officials also assisted beneficiaries in completing the documentation and verification process. District Training Officer Shashi Bhushan, Programme Officer Sheeshpal Singh Sohi and clerk Vijay Singh helped beneficiaries get their documents checked and guided them regarding deficiencies, wherever required.
The District Red Cross Society has announced that the final assessment camp in the current series will be held on September 10, 2026, at the Panchayat Bhawan located opposite Gaba Hospital. The camp will provide another opportunity for persons with disabilities and elderly citizens who have not yet undergone assessment or measurement to register themselves.
The Society has appealed to maximum eligible persons to attend the final camp with all required documents. Beneficiaries who, for any reason, could not register themselves at the earlier assessment camps have also been urged to make use of the final opportunity.
Officials said prospective beneficiaries should bring their relevant documents so that their eligibility and requirements can be assessed without unnecessary delay. Those whose documents require updating may also seek guidance from the officials present at the camp.
The initiative is part of the Red Cross Society’s efforts to facilitate access to assistive equipment for vulnerable sections of society. Artificial limbs and other support devices can play an important role in improving mobility, independence and day-to-day functioning for eligible persons with disabilities and elderly beneficiaries.
The Society said the assessment camps were also intended to ensure that beneficiaries receive information and assistance at the local level rather than having to face repeated difficulties in accessing the programme.
The participation of more than 120 people at the Saraswati Nagar camp reflected the demand for such assessment and support services. At the same time, the document verification exercise highlighted the importance of keeping Family ID and disability-related records updated for accessing government welfare benefits.
