Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena said the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) are proving effective in providing financial security to citizens and their families during difficult circumstances. He urged eligible citizens to enrol in these social security schemes and make use of the affordable insurance protection provided by the Central Government.

Meena said application forms for both schemes are available at bank branches and post offices. Citizens can obtain insurance protection of up to ₹2 lakh by paying the prescribed annual premium, subject to the respective scheme rules and eligibility conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner said the Central Government has introduced these two schemes to extend affordable life and accident insurance protection to a large number of bank customers. Such social security initiatives can provide important financial support to ordinary families in the event of an unexpected death or accident.

He said the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is available to eligible individuals in the age group of 18 to 50 years. Under the scheme, the annual premium is ₹436, while the subscriber receives life insurance protection of ₹2 lakh, according to the applicable provisions.

Meena said affordable insurance cover can prove particularly useful for families that may face financial difficulties following the death of an earning member. He encouraged eligible citizens to understand the scheme and complete their enrolment through their nearest bank branch or post office.

The Deputy Commissioner also explained the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, which provides accident insurance protection. Citizens in the age group of 18 to 70 years can enrol under the scheme, subject to the prescribed conditions.

Under PMSBY, an annual premium of only ₹20 provides accident insurance protection of up to ₹2 lakh. Meena said the low premium makes the scheme accessible to a wide section of citizens and can provide financial support to families in case of eligible accidental death or disability.

He said both schemes are designed to make basic insurance protection more accessible to ordinary citizens. The schemes are particularly important because unexpected life events can place a significant financial burden on families that may not have adequate savings or other forms of financial protection.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, the premium under these insurance schemes is deducted automatically from the subscriber’s linked bank or post office account through the auto-debit facility. Citizens should therefore ensure that the linked account remains active and has the required balance when the annual premium is due.

He also said that, in case of an eligible claim, the claim amount is transferred directly into the concerned beneficiary’s bank account after completion of the prescribed claim process and verification.

Meena urged citizens to obtain complete information regarding eligibility, coverage, premium and claim procedures before enrolling. He said applicants should contact their nearest bank branch or post office rather than relying on unverified information from other sources.

He emphasised that awareness is important for ensuring that eligible citizens are able to make proper use of government-backed social security programmes. Many families may be unaware that life and accident insurance protection can be obtained at relatively low annual premiums under these schemes.

The Deputy Commissioner said that social security schemes are intended to provide families with additional financial support during unforeseen circumstances. Life insurance and accident insurance can help reduce the immediate financial pressure that may arise following the death or serious accident of a family member.

He appealed to bank customers and other eligible citizens to check whether they meet the age and other eligibility requirements of PMJJBY and PMSBY. Those who are eligible can approach their nearest participating bank branch or post office to complete the enrolment formalities.

Meena also advised citizens to keep their bank account details and nominee information updated. Correct and updated records can help ensure smoother processing of claims when required. Citizens should also remain aware of the terms and conditions applicable to their respective insurance scheme.

The Deputy Commissioner said the government’s objective is to ensure that the benefits of social security programmes reach as many eligible citizens as possible. He called upon banks, post offices and local administrative institutions to create greater awareness about the schemes so that eligible residents can make informed decisions regarding insurance protection.

He said the combination of affordable premiums and defined insurance coverage makes PMJJBY and PMSBY important components of the government’s broader social security framework. While PMJJBY provides life insurance protection, PMSBY focuses on accidental risks, thereby addressing two different areas of financial vulnerability.

Meena appealed to citizens not to postpone enrolment if they are eligible for the schemes. He said families should consider insurance protection as an important part of financial planning, particularly when an unexpected event can significantly affect household income and financial stability.

He reiterated that forms for both schemes are available at banks and post offices, making the enrolment process accessible to citizens in both urban and rural areas. Residents can approach their nearest branch for information about the applicable procedure and documentation.

The Deputy Commissioner concluded by appealing to citizens to take maximum advantage of government welfare and social security schemes. He said greater participation in such programmes can strengthen financial protection for families and provide support during unforeseen circumstances.
