Anti-Narcotics Cell arrests factory worker with 5.129 kg of contraband; police probe supply network

In a major anti-drug operation, the Anti-Narcotics Cell-2 of Yamunanagar Police arrested a man with 5.129 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) near Bateri village on Bilaspur Road, dealing another blow to the district’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking.

Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and secured the accused’s police remand for further interrogation to trace the larger drug supply network.

According to Anti-Narcotics Cell-2 In-charge Raman Chandel, the operation was launched following a specific intelligence input about a person carrying a large quantity of narcotics near Bateri village. Acting swiftly, a police team led by Chandel, along with Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder and other personnel, laid a trap and apprehended the suspect.

During the search, officers recovered 5.129 kg of cannabis from his possession.

The accused was identified as Nisun Das alias Nishu, son of Ranjit, a native of Habibpur Fatehpur village in Bihar’s Samastipur district.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was employed at a plywood factory in the Bhedthal area of Yamunanagar and had allegedly brought the contraband from Bihar. Investigators are now working to identify the source of the narcotics and the intended recipients, while also probing possible links to a wider trafficking network.

Police said the accused has been remanded for custodial interrogation, during which investigators hope to uncover the entire chain involved in the smuggling operation.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating drug trafficking, Yamunanagar Police urged citizens to report any information related to narcotics so that strict action can be taken against those involved.
